The Nightmare On Elm Street Franchise

- Jackie Earle Haley, John Saxon, Amanda Wyss, Ken Sagoes
- Spin-offs (Movies)
- Freddy vs. Jason
- TV Show(s)
- Freddy's Nightmares
The Nightmare on Elm Street is a horror franchise that began with the 1984 film directed by Wes Craven. The series centers on Freddy Krueger, a former child killer who, after being burned alive by the parents of his victims, returns as a vengeful spirit who kills teenagers in their dreams. The franchise became a cornerstone of the horror genre, spawning nine films, a television series, novels, comics, video games, and more. Freddy Krueger, portrayed by Robert Englund in most of the films, is one of the most iconic characters in horror history. The series is known for its imaginative and terrifying dream sequences, blending slasher elements with supernatural horror.
October will be a big month for horror fans and Max will be adding one of the most popular horror franchises of all time. The Nightmare on Elm Street series kicked off with Wes Craven’s terrifying original movie in 1984. It introduced the world to Freddy Krueger, one of the horror genre's most entertaining and intimidating villains with the unique concept of Freddy invading his victim's dreams and killing them while they sleep.
The concept was chilling enough to launch a franchise with most of the Nightmare on Elm Street movies ing Max on October 1. The first five movies will be included, along with the crossover film Freddy vs Jason, in which Freddy faces off with another horror icon, Jason Voorhees. Freddy is the perfect horror movie character to spend the spooky month of October with, even if the sequels never live up to the original entry.

Salem's Lot is a 2024 remake of the movie of the same name released in 1979. The latest adaptation of Stephen King's 1975 novel stars Lewis Pullman, Makenzie Leigh, and Bill Camp, with Gary Dauberman writing and directing the Max original film. The plot revolves around a writer who discovers a vampire in his hometown of Jerusalem’s Lot upon returning home for inspiration.
After a long delay, a much-anticipated Stephen King adaptation is finally getting its release on Max in October. Salem’s Lot is the latest adaptation of King’s 1975 novel of the same name. The story takes place in a small town in which people, especially young children, are beginning to go missing. A young writer who has returned to his hometown begins to look into the strange occurrences and realizes that an ancient vampire has made the town of Salem’s Lot his new home and hunting ground.
The novel is often regarded as the scariest of King’s works, so it sets a daunting task for the movie to adequately capture the terror of the source material. The movie has had a hard time finding a release, but King himself vouched for Salem’s Lot as a worthy adaptation that deserved to find an audience. Fans can judge for themselves when the horror movie debuts on Max on October 3.

The Franchise is a Max original comedy television series that follows a film crew as they document their increasingly chaotic and hectic work on a Superhero film franchise. Acting as a satire on the industry, the show looks to lampoon the process and the sometimes unreasonable expectations of keeping a long-standing franchise alive and kicking.

One of the most exciting new shows of the fall season will make its premiere on Max on October 6. The Franchise is a new comedy series from the brilliant mind behind Veep, Armando Iannucci, as well as Succession’s John Brown and Oscar-winning director Sam Mendes. Instead of delving into politics, the new series is a Hollywood satire that focuses on the madcap and out-of-control production of a massive Hollywood superhero blockbuster.
Himesh Patel, Aya Cash, and Billy Magnussen headline the ensemble with Daniel Brühl in a ing role as the movie’s artistic yet frustrated director.
Along with the behind-the-scenes talent involved, the cast for The Franchise is also terrific. Himesh Patel, Aya Cash, and Billy Magnussen headline the ensemble with Daniel Brühl in a ing role as the movie’s artistic yet frustrated director. While superhero movies tend to be an easy target for Hollywood satire these days, with the exceptional minds at work on this series, it looks to be a clever and hilarious look at modern movie-making.
MaXXXine (2024)

MaXXXine
- Release Date
- July 5, 2024
- Runtime
- 103 Minutes
- Director
- Ti West
In 1980s Hollywood, adult film star and aspiring actress Maxine Minx lands her big break, but her rise to stardom is jeopardized by a mysterious killer targeting starlets. As the body count rises, secrets from Maxine's past threaten to surface, intertwining her quest for fame with a deadly game of survival.
While there are a lot of classic horror movies on Max to choose from for some Halloween viewing options, there are also some great new options from the genre that fans might have missed in theaters. MaXXXine is one such film, the bloody finale of Ti West’s trilogy that also includes X and Pearl coming to Max on October 18. The movie catches back up with Maxine Minx (Mia Goth), the lead and sole survivor of X. As she makes her way in showbusiness during 1980s’ Los Angeles, all the while a serial killer is stalking the streets.
MaXXXine did not have as big of an impact as the previous two movies in the trilogy, but it is still a fun thriller with a lot of style. West is clearly having a lot of fun doing his own take on the giallo horror movie while Goth once again delivers a stunning performance in the lead role. The MaXXXine cast is also excellent with the likes of Kevin Bacon, Lily Collins, Elizabeth Debicki, and Giancarlo Esposito in ing roles.

Trap

Cast

Trap is a film by writer-director M. Night Shyamalan under his Blinding Edge Pictures label. The film is part of a deal struck with Warner Bros for him to direct and produce several films under their banner.
Another of the most talked-about thrillers of the year will be arriving on Max on October 25. Trap is the latest movie from M. Night Shyamalan and contains one of his wildest setups for a thriller. Josh Hartnett plays a father taking his daughter to a concert for her favorite pop star. However, he soon discovers that the entire event is being used as a trap to catch a serial killer who is known to be attending the concert. The Shyamalan twist comes early in the movie with the reveal that Hartnett is the killer.
It is a bold move making a ruthless serial killer the protagonist of the movie as the viewers what him attempt to discover a way to escape. While the premise requires a lot of leaps in logic and suspension of disbelief, it is largely held together by Hartnett’s terrific and committed performance, which can be funny, chilling, and sad all at the same time.
