Heathers is a classic movie from the 1980s, with this being one of defining films of the decade that people still talk about and watch to this day. The blend of comedic teenage drama with the dark elements and humor that comes with it helps to make the movie a great one.
The reason that it is such a fun movie to watch is the brilliant characters that are part of it. They all have distinct flaws and some positives as well, pushing their styles during the movies, but out of all the characters, who is the best, and which aren't very likable?
Big Bud Dean
Big Bud Dean is one of the ing characters within Heathers, as J.D's father. He appears at different points and he has an interesting dynamic with his son, with the two of them clearly being arrogant about themselves.
It's obvious to see where J.D gets it from, with Big Bud Dean being very confident within himself. However, his desire to take control of a situation, wanting to win at everything does make him unlikable, and in the end, he's one of the weaker characters across the movie.
Father Ripper
Father Ripper isn't one of the most important characters within the movie, but his scenes are memorable. There are several funeral scenes due to the deaths that take place, and he is the one that is in charge of all of them.
He comes out with some interesting comments throughout those services, which are different from what people would really expect, making him a great character. But on top of that, it is his reactions to what other people do that makes him stand out.
Peter Dawson
Peter Dawson is another one of the ing characters from Heathers, and while he's not shown as much as other characters, when he does pop up, it's clear he's a kind and considerate person.
Peter tries his best to help others and he pushes charity work to his schoolmates, for all the good that it does him. However, he is someone who tries his best with others and is always aiming to cheer people up, which makes him a great character.
Ram & Kurt
Ram and Kurt really come as a package deal, with the two never being seen without each other. They take in the classic jock role within the movie, often appearing to try and bully other people, but not quite being as tough as they think that they are.
Ultimately, J.D. has their number and pushes them too far, but the duo does become a big part of the movie. Their back and forth reactions to each other make them a lot of fun to watch throughout as well.
Heather McNamara
Out of the four girls in the Heathers group, Heather McNamara is the least memorable, which is mainly because she doesn't get quite as much attention as the other characters. She is mainly just a follower, which is the main trait of everyone in the group realistically.
The other characters get to showcase a little more of their individual personality than she does, although Heather McNamara always provides comedy with her reactions to moments that are taking place.
Martha Dunnstock
Martha Dunnstock is one of the most memorable characters from Heathers, and someone who fans absolutely love. She is bullied throughout the movie by the Heathers and is often treated poorly, but her excitement for things and the positive attitude that she has never let up, which is what makes her so great.
She is a bubbly person who tries her best to be liked by others, which is what makes the ending of the movie so satisfying to see. Martha gains sympathy from viewers for how she's treated, but ultimately she becomes a hit for the way she behaves herself.
Heather Chandler
The original leader of the Heathers group, Heather Chandler might not be one of the nicest characters in the movie, but she is one of the best. She is a bully who looks down upon everyone else and she has no problem in letting people know her feelings.
However, while she can be catty and rude to others, it does make her entertaining. Heather Chandler comes out with some hilarious one-liners across her time in the movie, and even though people may not like her, she is one of the most memorable people in the movie.
Heather Duke
Another member of the Heathers group is Heather Duke, who is someone who sits in the background following Heather Chandler's lead until she's no longer around. From then on, Heather Duke sees her opportunity and takes it, looking to become the leader instead.
She showcases a lot of personality, being someone who is confident and sassy, believing in herself throughout the movie. Heather Duke might have to wait to really get to showcase herself, when she does the character is a lot of fun.
Jason Dean
Jason 'J.D' Dean is a controversial character, as he is someone that technically can be seen as the villain within the movie. He spends his time trying to get his own sense of justice out into the world, and he is responsible for the death of several characters.
However, he is a character that stands out and makes his presence felt in the movie. He is charismatic and manages to capture the attention of the audience whenever he appears. He's someone that is able to intrigue the audience with his interesting look on life, which does make him one of the best characters to appear.
Veronica Sawyer
The greatest character within this movie is Veronica Sawyer, who is also the lead character. She's quite a complex individual, being someone who puts her legitimate thoughts and feelings to one side in order to fit in with the Heathers to be their friends.
Her relationship with J.D leads to plenty of problems, but ultimately Veronica is a kind and funny character. She's somebody who thinks of others with her actions and is mature for her age, which is highlighted by how she looks at things. Meanwhile, her sarcasm and wit help her to make her a great lead character that people can enjoy.
