The trailer opens with a narrator talking about "something in these hills" that is "haunted." The scene transitions to an eerie, rural neighborhood before cutting to reveal the lead character of Hellboy, who says that the forest "smells like death." As the trailer alludes to the mystery to come in Hellboy: The Crooked Man, scenes reveal supernatural horrors, including a woman being strangled by a constricting snake. Hellboy: The Crooked Man Is Under Pressure to Perform

Previous Hellboy Movies Have Either Been Big Successes, Or A Huge Flop

The Hellboy: The Crooked Man trailer reveals the first look at the newest actor to take on the half-demon character. That actor is Jack Kesy, who is best known for his roles in films such as 12 Strong, Baywatch, and The Fish. At 37 years old, Kesy is the youngest actor to debut as the protagonist in a Hellboy feature film. Surrounding Kesy is a ing cast that includes Jefferson White, Leah McNamara, Joseph Marcell, Adeline Rudolph, Hannah Margetson, and Nathan Cooper. Hellboy: The Crooked Man is directed by Crank's Brain Taylor.

As Hellboy: The Crooked Man works with a new team for the feature film, it will have high expectations to live up to. Ron Perlman was iconic as the titular character in 2004's Hellboy and its 2008 sequel, giving Kesy a lot to live up to. Both films are well-reviewed, with Hellboy receiving an 81% on Rotten Tomatoes and the follow-up, Hellboy II: The Golden Army, receiving an even higher 86%. Scores this high give Hellboy: The Crooked Man a challenge.

Hellboy: The Crooked Man faces additional pressure from the fact that the last attempt to re-do del Toro's beloved duology failed dramatically. 2019's Hellboy was a flop, receiving a negative Rotten Tomatoes score among both critics and audiences. The film holds a 17% Tomatoemeter and a 48% approval rating among audiences. It also struggled at the box office, making just $55 million on an estimated $50 million budget. As a result, Hellboy: The Crooked Man is a chance to either resuscitate the franchise or further disappoint audiences.
