Today, Steamforged announced it was developing a new board game based on Helldivers 2. According to the official announcement, the game will feature 1–4 players working together to "complete high-risk missions, navigate hostile battlefields, call in reinforcements, and overcome enemy swarms." The new board game adapts several features from the game, including Strategems and a host of weaponry and coordinated tactics to choose from while tackling different missions. A crowdfunding campaign for the game will launch next month, with fulfillment to follow.

Expect Detailed Miniatures And Bespoke Gameplay Meant To Evoke The Video Game

Steamforged Games has a history of developing board game adaptations of video games, with the Resident Evil games, Elden Ring, and the Dark Souls franchise among its most popular releases. Steamforged is known for two things - filling its board games with detailed miniatures and trying to find a way to capture the spirit of the video game in board game form. As part of today's announcement, Steamforged revealed a first look at the Brood Commander miniature that will appear in the new board game.

Steamforged appears to be a fan of the franchise and is also hinting at some of the additional features from the game. “Helldivers 2 is a perfect fit for the tabletop, and as big fans of the game, we consider it a huge privilege to be making it happen," said Mat Hart, COO and co-founder of Steamforged in today's announcement. "We couldn’t be more excited to bring its high-octane, co-op mayhem to the board game world. Players can expect heroic last stands, spectacularly avoidable friendly-fire, and the kind of cinematic action that turns every gaming session into a glorious war story. For liberty!”

If Steamforged Can Control The Add-Ons, This Should Be A Great Game

I'm a fan of many Steamforged games, although the company tends to go overboard in overloading some of its games with too many expansions. The Elden Ring board game is a particularly egregious example, and I'm worried that Helldivers 2: The Board Game will get the same expansion treatment. If Steamforged offers an "all-in-one box" style experience, I think Helldivers 2 fans will be very happy. Otherwise, they may face an expensive price tag to get the entire board game experience.
