Those familiar with the cozy genre know that gardening is often a big part of every game, and Hello Kitty Island Adventure is no exception. Through the use of various tools, players can grow, move, and breed unique flowers as they please. Despite the presence of fruit around the island, vegetables are absent, as players are unable to grow anything other than flowers when gardening.

Despite being a big priority for a lot of players, gardening is not exactly an early-game activity, as it requires nearly maxing out a few friendships and reaching a late-game area, Merry Meadow. That being said, it’s well worth the wait and opens up a new section of gameplay once available where players can grow and craft beautiful bouquets for friends.

How To Unlock The Watering Can

Befriend My Melody & Help Her Around The Island

To get your first brush with Flowers in Hello Kitty Island Adventure, you’ll first need to work on building a friendship with resident flower lover, My Melody. Once she has reached level 14, players will unlock her friendship quest, Flower Power. Unfortunately, reaching level 14 can take quite a while since players are only able to gift her three items a day, but certain things can help move things along, like using Hello Kitty's Everyone's Friend companion ability, which increases friendship rates when gifting.

In addition to reaching level 14 with My Melody, players will also need to have completed Crystal Vay-Cay, one of My Melody’s earlier friendship quests that involves following her around the island a bit. Once both those requirements have been met, players can move on to acquiring the first gardening tool, the Watering Can. You still won't be able to plant flowers yourself with just the Watering Can, but it will become necessary later.

While time skipping can be tempting when reaching high friendship-level goals, it will break your game and corrupt your save file, barring you from certain features like Multiplayer. Utilize Friendship Blossoms to reset gifts instead. Players who purchased the Deluxe Edition of Hello Kitty Island Adventure should have received some in the Starter Bundle.

Once the Flower Power quest becomes available, speak with My Melody, who will inform you how busy she is trying to water all the flowers around the resort. She’ll ask for your help and even provide you with a watering can to assist her. While there are more in the ground around the island, for this part of the quest, just focus on the buds in the pots indicated by My Melody, which will have an exclamation point over them and be relatively close to the center of the plaza.

If you have trouble at any point, you can always turn on the quest guide in the quest tracking menu, which will spawn a small glowing light that leads you toward your objective. After you’ve watered all the required buds, and collected the items they spit out, return to My Melody. As Kuromi did with the Snorkel, My Melody will take back the Watering Can she gave you but offer you plans to make your own in exchange.

To craft the watering can, you will need 5x Iron Ingot and 2x Mechanisms. Iron Ingot can be crafted using Iron Ore found around Mount Hothead while Mechanisms can be grafted using Gizmo's, which are Chococat's daily friendship gift. Once you have the required materials, head to any crafting station to craft your own Watering Can, which can be used to water buds around the island. Note that it will not be part of the wheel and is, instead, always an active tool, like the Flippers or Snorkel.

How To Unlock Flower Planting

Visit Merry Meadow & Meet Wish Me Mell

To do more than simply water flower buds for rewards around the resort, you’ll need to head to Merry Meadow, where you’ll meet the most important gardening resident, Wish me mell. Unlocking this area requires making substantial progress in Hello Kitty Island Adventure. My Melody's Revive The Oasis quest must be completed, and players will need to have started the Curious Caverns quest, which eventually leads to Merry Meadow.

In Merry Meadow, Wish me mell will be the main way to make progress in the area, as most of the quests here are attached to her friendship levels, including gardening. Not long after meeting her, she will present you with your first quest and semi-formal introduction to gardening, Wildflower Hustle. In this quest, Wish me mell will share that she wants to increase the number of flowers in the area.

Wish me mell has some suspicions that growing flowers next to each other may make something new and recommends that you try it with seeds around the area. To start, you will need to collect 5 seeds and plant them in the designated plots marked with exclamation marks. After you’ve done so, speak with Wish me mell, who will remind you to look out for new colors and water the flowers to speed up their growth, which is when your previously acquired Watering Can will come in handy.

This will conclude the quest and serve as a small intro to gardening in Hello Kitty Island Adventure. From here, players are free to use the available plots around Merry Meadow to experiment with different combinations of flowers and see what they can make.

How To Unlock The Trowel

Use The Trowel To Move Flowers And Create Gardens

Similarly to the Watering Can, The Trowel is an important gardening tool that is unlocked through a friendship quest in Hello Kitty Island Adventure. Specifically, players will need to begin the Dig It Up quest to unlock the Trowel, which requires reaching level 10 friendship with Wish me mell and completing an earlier friendship quest, Mulch Be Well. Once those conditions have been met, the Dig It Up quest will become available.

To start the quest, speak with Wish me mell, who will inform you that she would like to move some flowers around Merry Meadow. Unfortunately, she only has one Trowel, the tool required to move flowers. Instead of sharing hers as other characters in Hello Kitty Island Adventure have done in the past, she will just go ahead and provide you with crafting plans to make your own. To craft a Trowel, you will need 15x Woodblocks and 5x Iron Ingot.

As always, Woodblocks can be crafted using Sticks or Coconut, while Iron Ingot can be crafted using Iron Ore. When you have all the materials, head to a crafting bench in Hello Kitty Island Adventure and craft the Trowel, which will now become another tool in your tool wheel. Unlike the Watering Can, this tool is not always active, and you will need to equip it if you would like to move flowers. To use the Trowel, simply approach any blooming flowers and use the Trowel to dig them up.

Once in your inventory, you can approach any available plot in Hello Kitty Island Adventure and act as if you are planting a seed. When you do this, the fully bloomed flower you dug up should be available for planting, allowing you to curate beautiful gardens throughout the game as you please. From here, gardening only continues to get more complex, so be sure to spend some time experimenting with your new tools and flower varieties to make the most of it.
