While there are a variety of useful tools in Hello Kitty Island Adventure, some can be harder to obtain than others, one in particular is the Pickaxe. While the Pickaxe is by no means a vital tool early on in the game, as opposed to flippers or the snorkel, it is still something players should work on getting as soon as possible to avoid running into issues later.

The Pickaxe, once crafted, allows players to destroy obstructions in their way, most of which can be found in the mines and caves around the island. Since this isn’t an early-game item, it's only fitting that players would need to make some significant progress to unlock the associated quest.

Pre-Requisites For Unlocking The Pickaxe

Befriend Some Of The Residents Of Big Adventures Park

To gain access to the necessary quest, Revive The Oasis, players will need to complete quite a few tasks. Firstly, you will need to slightly increase your friendship with Pompompurin and complete the quests, Dessert-ed Boat and Parched. This should only require reaching level 4 friendship with Pompompurin, and both of these quests are relatively easy; plus, the latter unlocks the soda machine.

If, for any reason, you still can't access either of these quests, open the quest tracker in your menu to see what's holding it up. On occasion, if a character is currently involved in another quest, this can prevent you from progressing even if you met all the requirements, until that resident is available again. So ensure that everyone involved is not stuck in the middle of something else that needs to be finished first. The quest tracker will specify what's holding them up, if applicable.

Once you've completed those quests, the more tedious task is reaching level 11 friendship with My Melody. Since only 3 gifts can be given per day and unlocking ultimate gifts in Hello Kitty Island Adventure can take some time, this may take a couple of days to accomplish. Try to prioritize gifting the highest quality gift you can. The easiest early 2-heart gift for My Melody is the Pink Latte, which can be made using Candlenut and Strawberries in the Espresso Machine in Hangyodon's Comedy Club.

While it may seem easy to skip time so you can level up My Melody faster, don't do it. Time skipping in HKIA will break the game and corrupt your save file, causing you to permanently lose access to features such as multiplayer and more.

Keep in mind that if you want to speed things along without time jumping, which is not recommended, you can use Friendship Blossoms to reset a character's gift limit for the day. These are acquired as rewards in special circumstances but also are included in the Start Bundle as part of the Deluxe Edition of Hello Kitty Island Adventure. Once all the requirements have been met, the quest for the Pickaxe, Revive The Oasis, will unlock and become available to start.

Help My Melody Revive The Oasis

Use A Pickaxe To Stop A Boulder From Blocking Water Flow

When starting the Revive The Oasis quest, My Melody and Keroppi will lead you to an area where a boulder is seemingly blocking a water source. After investigating the cave through another entrance, you'll find that the boulder has become stuck and can't be pushed out of the way. After trying and failing to clear the boulder, Chococat will appear and offer up some crafting plans for a Pickaxe to help break the boulder.

To craft the Pickaxe in Hello Kitty Island Adventure, you will need 10x Woodblock and 3x Iron Ingot. The iron ingot can be crafted from Iron Ore found on Mount Hothead, while the Woodblock can be crafted from either Sticks or Coconuts, both of which can be found around the main part of the resort. Once you have the materials, head to either of the crafting benches and craft the Pickaxe. With the Pickaxe in hand, head back to My Melody and break the boulder to wrap up Revive The Oasis.

Now that you have a Pickaxe, you can access it by using your tool wheel. Be sure to keep an eye out for obviously breakable boulders around the island that may contain various secrets like treasure chests and more. Additionally, if you’ve been unable to unlock the final Critter List for the Nature Preserve in Hello Kitty Island Adventure, you can now head in and break the boulder in the second to last room, where you'll find the final list.
