Here's who plays The Derelict who appears a few times throughout Nightbreed, in addition to spawning nine Hellraiser sequels of wildly varying quality
The first two Hellraiser movies are often considered genre classics, but despite Pinhead becoming the series icon, surprisingly, nobody involved in the first two entries saw it that way. He's simply labeled "Lead Cenobite" in the original film, while Hellbound: Hellraiser 2 was set to make Julia the ongoing villain. The audience response to Pinhead saw this plan changed, and the character has appeared in every entry since. Another who has reappeared several times is The Derelict, who acts as the guardian of the Lament Configuration puzzle box.
This figure changes face in every entry, being played in Hellraiser III: Hell On Earth by that film's producer Lawrence Mortorff and in the sixth movie Hellseeker by Pinhead actor Doug Bradley himself. The Derelict first appeared in the original Hellraiser, where he silently stalks Ashley Lawrence's Kirsty throughout, including eating a fistful of crickets in the pet shop she works in. The character is mute every time he pops up, and only when he retrieves the box from a raging fire in the finale is he revealed to be a demon. The Derelict was played by Frank Baker, a British character actor.
Outside of Hellraiser, Baker has been since on TV shows like Minder and Taggart, with his last movie credit being 2010's Made In Dagenham alongside Andrea Riseborough, Bob Hoskins and Sally Hawkins. While Baker is credited at the end of Hellraiser for the role, a couple of urban legends suggested that either famed comic book writer Alan Moore or even Clive Barker himself played The Derelict.
While it might have been a nice meta touch for Barker himself to play the "Guardian" of the puzzle box, this isn't the case. The Hellraiser franchise hasn't had a theatrical entry since 1996's Hellraiser: Bloodline, but a reboot movie and a TV series are currently being developed. HBO is behind the Halloween 2018 director David Gordon Green working behind the scenes on the project. There are no story details for the show yet, but maybe The Derelict will make a return appearance to offer the box to another damned soul; the production could also check Alan Moore's availability.
