Marvel fan art imagines actor Henry Cavill as Wolverine in the X-Men and Fantastic Four will be ing the MCU. As of yet, nothing has been confirmed, largely because Disney subsidiary Marvel Studios couldn't even start planning for the mutants' eventual introduction to the MCU until the deal had closed. Plus, Disney still had two Fox X-Men movies to release: 2019's Dark Phoenix and next month's The New Mutants.
Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige did confirm at San Diego Comic-Con 2019 that the X-Men are coming to the MCU eventually, it's just a matter of when the first mutant will debut - or if another former Fox property will make the transition first, like a member of the Fantastic Four. While Marvel has remained mum on their plans for mutants in the MCU so far, fans have taken to speculating about when the X-Men might and who should play fan-favorite characters like Wolverine. After Hugh Jackman hung up the claws in Logan, fans have put forward their own choices for who should take on the role next - and now new fan art envisions Cavill in the part.
Over the weekend, unfounded rumors circulated on social media prompting discussion of whether Cavill would be a fit for the Wolverine role in the MCU. On Instagram, artists have posted their renditions of what Cavill could look like as Wolverine, giving the Superman actor Logan's signature adamantium claws and sideburns. Cavill has some experience playing a well known comic book superhero, having portrayed Superman in three DC Extended Universe movies - Zack Snyder's Man of Steel, Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League. After the difficult production of Justice League and it underperforming at the box office, there were reports Cavill is currently filming The Witcher season 2.
As for whether Cavill would make a good Wolverine, that's up for debate among Marvel fans. As some have pointed out, Cavill has the broad chest and dark hair that give him a likeness to Logan. But other fans have criticized the idea of having another tall actor portray the famously short comic book character. Jackman faced similar criticism when he was first cast as Wolverine in 2000's X-Men movie, but has since won over most (if not all) detractors. For those wondering how tall Wolverine is, in the Marvel comics he's 5'3", while Jackman is 6'2" and Cavill is 6'1". Although Jackman proved a taller actor can pull off the character, fans hoping for a different take on Wolverine, one that's specifically shorter, are likely hoping Marvel goes in a different direction than Cavill when it comes to casting.
For now, it's unclear when Wolverine will the MCU, or who Marvel will cast in the role, but fans can continue speculating and creating awesome art of their favorite picks.
