Warning: Spoilers for My Hero Academia: Team-Up Missions Ch. 16My Hero Academia sees the return of a popular character from its most recent film, World Heroes' Mission, as Rody Soul pays a visit to Japan and has the chance to reunite with Midoriya in its spin-off series, Team-Up Missions.
Rody was one of the best characters from My Hero Academia: World Heroes' Mission. Hailing from the fictional European nation of Otheon, Rody got mixed up in the events of the film by stealing a briefcase, and ultimately ended up working with Deku to help bring about the end of the crisis. In the chapter, which is set after the film, Rody arrives in Japan with his younger siblings in tow, as well as the bird which is a manifestation of his Quirk, Pino. Rody gets the chance to meet several other students from Class 1-A who were assigned elsewhere during World Heroes' Mission, but grows concerned when his younger siblings wander out of sight.
My Hero Academia Brings Rody Soul Back to Meet Deku
Rody actually won tickets to visit Japan, so the trip was a bit sudden, but as a caring older brother, he really wanted to give his little brother and sister a chance to see the world, in addition to seeing his friends again. Rody likes to play things cool with a poker face, but Pino always reflects his true emotions, a fact that Midoriya is well aware of. Midoriya, Shoji, Kirishima, and Jiro take Rody and his siblings through some of the sights and sounds of Japan, and together they stop atop a building to watch some special planes taking off and landing, as aviation is Rody's dream. However, as that's going on, Rody's siblings wander off, and he begins to panic. Despite being surrounded by hero students, Rody runs off to find them by himself, ironically making it so that he was the one who got lost. The kids had only stepped aside to buy a souvenir for him: pilot's goggles, which fit with his outfit nicely. Rody promises to visit Japan again in the future--after all, he'll be able to fly out any time he wants once he's a pilot.
This isn't the first time that Team-Up Missions has brought a movie character into the world of the manga; an earlier chapter of My Hero Academia Team-Up Missions invited Melissa Shield from the first movie to have a item contest with UA's resident gadget girl, Mei Hatsume. While the spinoff isn't strictly canon, the chapter makes for a nice little epilogue for Rody, who turned out to be a fairly popular character once the movie was released. The goggles actually fit so well in his character design that it's almost hard to believe they weren't always there (previously, he wore sunglasses over his head).
While it's unlikely that Rody will make any further appearances, it is always nice to see a beloved one-off character like this make a return of any sort. The chapter also makes for a nice reprieve from the tense atmosphere of the final battle arc in My Hero Academia's main manga, offering a chance to see Midoriya and the gang having fun again.
