Metal Gear Solid franchise. However, after a while there was a falling out between the two and, eventually, Kojima parted ways with Konami. In more recent years, Kojima has begun his own company, Kojima Productions, and now fans are speculating what game the studio will be working on next.
Hideo Kojima's Metal Gear series first began with Metal Gear in 1987 for the MSX2, and since then numerous successful installments to the series have come out, proving that Kojima had the ability to create one of the most successful video game franchises of all time. More recently, Kojima developed Death Stranding which, although met with mixed reviews, many critics declare to be a widely creative and completely unique stand-alone game.
Now that Kojima Productions is finished with Death Stranding, its first major title since Kojima's departure from Konami, fans are waiting with bated breath to see what the video game producer and writer is going to come up with next. There are plenty of theories out there about what these games might be. Here are the the most plausible (and the most ridiculous) theories available.
Hideo Kojima's Silent Hills & PT
Before Kojima left Konami, he was working on one of the most highly anticipated projects at the time: Silent Hills. Players were given a glimpse at what a Silent Hills game would look like with PT, or the Playable Teaser, and many thought it was one of the most unique horror titles available. Sadly, Konami canceled Silent Hills and PT was removed from the PlayStation Store not long after. Recent rumors suggest that a Silent Hill reboot is, in fact, in the works. While it seems unlikely that Kojima Productions will be involved with the project (considering that Konami still owns the franchise) anything could happen. The company did, after all, show they knew what they were doing when they released PT in the first place.
Hideo Kojima's Death Stranding 2
Although Death Stranding was likely not quite the commercial and financial success that Kojima was hoping for, the entire company clearly put a lot of time and energy into deg the world and lore of the game. Given all of the hard work it took to craft that intricate complexity, it is not outside the realm of possibility that Kojima Productions may soon return to the world of Death Stranding in a sequel or even a prequel. Death Stranding's movement and controls are unlike almost any other title, and it would be a waste to not explore them further.
Hideo Kojima's Unannounced Horror Game
If Silent Hills doesn't pan out, it is highly unlikely that Kojima would let all of the ideas and development that had been put into that game go to waste. Instead, Kojima Productions could be working to funnel many of those ideas into a brand-new horror IP. Thankfully, this seems to be the most likely scenario, as Kojima himself has already itted that the next game Kojima Productions develops will be a horror title.
Hopefully, this means some of the concepts which were lost with the removal of PT from the PlayStation Store will return. If Kojima wants his next horror title to truly be successful, however, it needs to have Death Stranding did.
Hideo Kojima's New Metal Gear Solid
Of course, there is no video game franchise more tightly linked to Hideo Kojima than Metal Gear Solid. Sadly, it is quite unlikely that the series' creator will ever be able to return to the Metal Gear games, given that they are still owned by Konami. If a reunion between the two companies ever were to happen, however, fans would likely wonder about the possibility of a new Metal Gear game. Unfortunately, it seems like the franchise is simply over for good.
Something Completely New
Although he has said that the company's next project will be horror-focused, it is also entirely possible Kojima will change track and create an entirely new game. After all, his previous title, Death Stranding, was just that. After spending so many decades working on the Metal Gear series, maybe what Kojima wants to do is create some new IPs for a while.
Regardless of what direction Kojima Productions decides to go in over the course of the next few years, that direction will likely be a good one. Hideo Kojima has crafted many of the most iconic video game stories and experiences of all time. That trend is likely to continue, and it is just as likely that gamers from all over the world will be going out in droves to check out whatever game Hideo Kojima makes next.
