Since it will likely be a while until High Potential set viewership milestones, taking over The Conners' record for ABC's most-watched new series, which was previously set in 2018. Given its outstanding success, many people are anxiously awaiting season 2.

High Potential is set to premiere sometime during the 2025–2026 season on ABC. According to Deadline, season 2 is expected to have a larger episode count than season 1, which contained 13 episodes.

Unfortunately, ABC likely won't release High Potential season 2 until September 2025 at the earliest, giving fans plenty of time to sit around and wait for the show's return. The good news is that the ideal substitute for the ABC series is easily accessible. However, the bad news is that by watching it, fans might be spoiled about some of High Potential's biggest mysteries, including where Morgan's ex-husband, Roman, has been for the past 15 years.

High Potential's Best Replacement Series Is HPI

The ABC Show Is Based On HPI

High Potential isn't a completely original series as it is based on the French and Belgian comedy HPI, created by Stéphane Carrié, Alice Chegaray-Breugnot, and Nicolas Jean. HPI premiered in April 2021 and contains four seasons and 32 episodes, with eight episodes per season. Both TV shows — High Potential and HPI — revolve around a single mother in her late 30s who is considered a "high potential intellectual," which is why HPI is the perfect replacement for High Potential during its hiatus.

High Potential's Morgan and HPI's Morgane are hired by police departments as consultants after helping solve a case in their respective premieres. The two characters share many things in common beyond their professions, though. Morgan and Morgane have similar personalities and fashion sense; they both have three children and two ex-husbands; and their first husbands mysteriously disappeared 15 years prior to the start of their shows.

HPI Can Offer An Idea About What Really Happened To Roman Ahead Of High Potential Season 2

HPI Eventually Solves The Roman Mystery

In HPI, Morgane strikes a deal with her superintendent to reopen her first husband's missing persons case in exchange for her help at the police department. This might sound familiar because it's exactly what happens between Morgan and Selena in the High Potential series premiere. Since HPI's story is ahead of the American show, the original series already has the answers concerning Roman's case. Consequently, by watching HPI, fans could get spoiled about what really happened to Morgan's ex-husband in High Potential.

High Potential's season finale had its first antagonist evade capture, but prevailing theories posit that "David" is a secretly meaningful character.

While Roman wasn't found at the end of High Potential season 1, Karadec learned that he is alive and was previously an FBI informant. So, the audience is already aware of some of the details in Roman's case. HPI still contains much more information regarding what happened to the protagonist's first ex-husband, though. If High Potential decides to take the same route as the French/Belgian series, watching it will spoil the American version. However, it's much more probable that the writers of the newer show stray from the original to ensure that the answer to their big mystery shocks viewers.

Where To Stream All Seasons Of HPI

HPI Is Only Available On 1 Streaming Service

If fans want to take a chance and risk being spoiled about Roman's case, they can find HPI on Hulu. However, it might be a bit difficult to find on the streaming platform. HPI is the American name for the French/Belgian comedy, while its actual title is HIP. As such, subscribers must search for "HIP" on Hulu to find all four seasons and 32 episodes of the High Potential replacement TV series.

Hulu features two versions of HIP — one is dubbed in English, while the other retains its original language (French) but has English subtitles. So, viewers will get to choose which one they want to watch while waiting for the return of the ABC crime drama show. Whatever the case, HPI should fill the High Potential-sized hole in fans' hearts during the hiatus between seasons 1 and 2.

HPI season 5 is currently in development and will reportedly debut in May 2025.
