High Potential star Daniel Sunjata candidly addresses a possible romance between his character, Detective Adam Karadec, and Morgan Gillory. The popular detective drama, which is based on the French series HPI, has broken records for ABC. Each episode has averaged more than 10 million viewers, while the premiere has reached more than 20 million viewers to date. Part of the procedural's undeniable appeal is the chemistry between Karadec and Gillory (Kaitlin Olson), who have an antagonistic but ultimately collaborative partnership.
In an interview with Screen Rant's Rachel Foertsch, Sunjata addressed a possible romance between Morgan and Karadec. The Rescue Me alum shared that he could see it happening, explaining how their type of relationship is a common favorite for television fans. In the quote below, however, Sunjata also leaves room for the possibility that they may not get together:
Yeah, I do actually. I'm a fan of television, and I think I'm hearing from you, that you're a fan of television. Isn't that what people would want to see? Whether it happens or not, just teasing out a possible attraction between the two of them, as Daniel Sunjata, I think that it would be cool if they tease that out, and then ultimately, it just ends up that they're just friends with mutual respect, and that it actually never goes anywhere truly romantic.
That it just ends up being two people who have changed each other. In of, "This friendship has changed me, this professional relationship has changed me. There might've been a moment where we thought 'Maybe we might get together,'" and then if it doesn't happen, I think that would be awesome, honestly. I don't know where they're going to take that, but I do hope that they take their time with it. They don't need to rush to any conclusions
What Morgan & Karadec's Partnership Means For High Potential
It's Wide Open Right Now
At the start of High Potential, Morgan and Karadec are skeptical of each other. Karadec is unsure of her ability to solve cases, at least at first, and is continuously annoyed at her disregard for procedure. Morgan, meanwhile, thinks her new partner is uptight and uncaring. Seven episodes in, those feelings haven't completely dissolved. But they've learned to work together all the same.

More than that, there's a certain trust between Morgan and Karadec that wasn't there before. High Potential hails from creator Drew Goddard, who worked on Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Alias, with The Resident's Todd Harthan as showrunner. Everyone involved is familiar with the rhythms and rhymes of weekly TV, so it may be at least a season or two before any romantic sparks start flying between the show's two leads. Another element to consider is that Morgan has several potential long-term love interests.
The Verdict On Morgan & Karadec So Far
It's Better To Take It Slow
The hit adaptation recently introduced Mayans M.C. alum JD Pardo as Tom, and he hits it off quickly with Morgan. There's also Morgan's ex-husband Ludo (played by Taran Killam) and Morgan's first husband who disappeared years earlier. Morgan may just not want someone in her life, especially because of how she describes her mind working and rarely finding a moment of peace. That will be one component for the likely High Potential season 2 to untangle.
High Potential season 1 will return with new episodes on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at 9 PM ET.

Morgan, a single mother of three with a brilliant but unconventional mind, partners with a methodical detective after solving a crime during her job as a cleaner. Together, they form an unlikely but effective duo, blending her unique problem-solving skills with his by-the-book approach to tackle challenging cases.
