Warning: SPOILERS ahead for High Potential season 1, episode 13!High Potential season 1 ended with the shocking revelation that Roman is alive and was working as an FBI informant. These truths open the door for plenty to explore in the already-renewed season 2.
Speaking with ScreenRant, Harthan explained what Roman being alive means for High Potential's future, teasing season 2 will reveal more about why he vanished. The showrunner doesn't explicitly state how these answers will be presented, but does indicate it won't be predictable, and has plenty of complexity that will soon be explored. While there's not an exact map of how everything will play out, developing those future storylines makes him "[terrified] and [excited] at the same time." Check out what Harthan had to say below:
The truth is that when we gather all the writers, it's one of the first things we'll start mapping out. When we ended last season, we had some notions about, “Oh, well, now we've filled in some of the blanks,” but I also love to pull the rug out from underneath your feet when you think, “We're going to meet him, he's going to start answering questions, and in episode 1, season 2, here it comes.”
I think what you'll learn next year is that his disappearance and where he went and why he ended up there was really, really complicated. And it's not hopefully something that the audience will predict, but it's something we're going to map out. I will probably get in trouble for saying this, but sometimes I go, “This is a really compelling, interesting way to end a season, and I'm backing myself into a really terrifying story corner that I have to fight my way out of with some other wonderful brains in the writer's room.”
And I love that challenge. I love that challenge. So, the short answer is I don't really know exactly where we're going to take it next season, and that's terrifying and exciting at the same time, but I would just want to get it right. I want to get it right.
What Harthan's Statement Means For High Potential Season 2
Roman Might Have An Even Bigger Focus
With season 1 closing on the revelation that Roman is alive, the groundwork is laid for High Potential season 2 further exploring the implications of this discovery. Morgan's search for her husband had been very much in the background of the larger story throughout most of season 1, with very little information cropping up as weekly mysteries unraveled. But, with the season finale ending on such a major note, it appears the investigation will be more centralized in the next batch of episodes. This is especially true because of how close answers to his fate finally feel.

Morgan & Karadec's Relationship Takes A Big Step In High Potential Episode 12 (It Isn't What You Think)
High Potential is finally exploring how Karadec feels about Morgan, but the ABC hit procedural isn’t jumping the slow-burn gun just yet.
However, as Harthan states, answers about why he disappeared and what he's been doing for 15 years aren't going to come easy. While High Potential episode 13 proves others will still be helping Morgan process this latest reveal, it's going to be up to her to decide what she does with this newly-acquired information. Since all that's known is Karadec (Daniel Sunjata) telling her Roman is alive, there could be a myriad of ways her next move plays out. Season 2 exploring why he vanished might open up a whole new mystery with complications the show hasn't even hinted at yet.
Our Take On High Potential Revealing Roman Is Alive
The Perfect Hook For Season 2
With very little revealed about Roman's current whereabouts aside from him still being alive, the show has laid intriguing groundwork for how season 2 can play out. Morgan could become more hands-on with the investigation now that she knows her husband is alive, setting the stage for a very different focus for the show moving ahead. Since High Potential still has plenty to explore with its ongoing mystery, this revelation only serves to deepen future episodes as answers lead to new questions.
High Potential season 2 will also need to follow up on a mysterious kidnapper now targeting Morgan.
