This article contains spoilers for High Potential season 1, episode 13, "Let's Play."The season finale of ABC's new hit drama, Morgan continues to search for her missing ex-husband Roman through a shady informant.
As Morgan works on the case, she briefly mentions her father to Karadec for the first time. This is a rarity for the intelligent mother of three because Morgan never gets too personal or emotionally attached at work. However, the difficulty of facing a villain who matches Morgan's IQ level and uses that intelligence to harm others makes her have more contemplative feelings this time, reminding her of her father and how she obtained her intellect. Despite the significance of the Roman case, the new reveal about Morgan and her father is the most heartbreaking plot twist yet.
High Potential Season 1 Offers New Information About Morgan's Dad
Morgan Describing Her Father Reveals More About Her Character

When the LAPD desperately tries to save the next kidnapping victim, locked inside a safe, Morgan figures out the safe's combination due to her knowledge of the game Jacks (a game her father hated) while viewing clues from the artwork on the wall. After successfully saving the female victim, Karadec grows curious about Morgan's father because this is the first time she's mentioned him since working with the LAPD. Morgan hesitantly describes how her father also has HPI like her but has a different mindset compared to hers.

High Potential Season 1 Finale Review: One Of Network TV's Best New Shows Just Stuck The Landing & I Couldn't Be More Excited For Season 2
ABC makes some big reveals and twists to end High Potential season 1, proving that it is one of the best new network shows in the 2024-2025 TV cycle.
Morgan mentions her father's distaste for simple games like Jacks. As a young girl, Morgan's dad forced her to turn away from her 2nd-grade classmates because he didn't think they were worthy of her intelligence acumen. This caused Morgan's schoolmates to be upset with her, believing she was being spoiled and acting smarter than everybody else. This dilemma has troubled Morgan for years, negatively impacting her social interactions with others as a child. However, Morgan opening up about her father to Karadec allows her to open up old wounds, and to be more vulnerable for a change.
Why Learning About Morgan's Dad Is More Heartbreaking Than Its Roman Twist
Morgan's Father Hints At Her Challenging Past
Roman's disappearance has been an ongoing case throughout season 1. Aside from solving weekly cases, Morgan's working relationship with the LAPD has been predicated on finding out where her first husband is and whether he's dead or alive. While the High Potential season 1 finale ends with a plot twist as Karadec tells Morgan that Roman is alive, the revelation regarding Morgan's father is more heartbreaking because it signifies Morgan's vulnerability, including her challenging ability to trust others. Morgan's complex relationship with her father may be the key to unlocking the origins of how she developed her HPI.
For the first time in a case, the perpetrator is still on the loose, and Morgan's IQ (sparking painful memories of her father) is being tested more than ever before.
As Morgan learns here, being a highly intelligent person isn't always a gift, but also a curse. For instance, the serial kidnapper Morgan is pursuing is a meaningfully intelligent villain who uses his intelligence acumen to cause harm to innocent civilians. This deeply troubles Morgan, especially now that the kidnapper nearly killed Detective Lev "Oz" Ozdil and has gotten close to Morgan and her children, affecting everyone's safety. For the first time in a case, the perpetrator is still on the loose, and Morgan's IQ (sparking painful memories of her father) is being tested more than ever before.
High Potential Season 2 Needs To Further Explore Morgan's Childhood
Morgan's Childhood May Unleash Unsolved Mysteries Next Season
Now that Morgan has met her match against a serial kidnapper intent on testing her abilities, this case may cause her to further explore her childhood and memories of her dad, especially due to the villain's use of kids' games. While the actual kidnapper's face has been revealed, his identity is still up in the air, raising questions about whether he knows Morgan and her kids since he got close to them outside a supermarket. If the kidnapper knows Morgan, flashbacks may be shown in High Potential season 2 to provide answers as to why he's going after her.

Morgan's father can be added to the mix to provide dramatic tension and to understand why her relationship with him was so strained. There may also be comic relief in determining whether Morgan or her dad has the better IQ. With various storylines and characters, High Potential season 2 can't come any sooner.
