Throughout High Potential season 1 cases, opening the door for a potential romance.

When it didn’t happen as High Potential season 2 was confirmed, there was hope that the romance would develop then. However, Kaitlin Olson has made it clear that we may not want to set ourselves up for expectations on that front. At least, it may not happen early on, as it turns out that this is going to be more of a slow-burn love story. To be honest, that could be the best option for the entire series.

Morgan & Karadec Relationship In High Potential Explained

From Dislike To A Platonic Friendship

When Morgan and Karadec first met each other in the High Potential series premiere, they didn’t like each other. The dislike was more from Karadec’s side of the partnership, as a cop who plays by the rules and follows expected standards. As Morgan came in with her own ideas and messed up the suspect board, he felt that her lack of professionalism was going to cause far too many issues, not respecting her lack of respect for procedure.

Their relationship developed more into a friendship the night they stayed up to work a case while eating Chinese food, and Karadec didn’t even care that Morgan interrupted his date to share theories about a case.

Then Morgan proved that while she wasn’t a cop, and she didn’t follow the rules like one, she did always do what was best for the victim. Her focus was on solving the puzzles, and she would spend hours thinking through one little piece of the jigsaw. Their relationship developed more into a friendship the night they stayed up to work a case while eating Chinese food, and Karadec didn’t even care that Morgan interrupted his date to share theories about a case.

Kaitlin Olson Reveals Morgan Treats Karadec As A Little Brother In High Potential (For Now)

This Doesn’t Rule Out Romance In The Future

Karadec and Morgan sitting together in High Potential

When speaking with TV Insider, Olson shared a disappointing update about the potential romance in High Potential season 2. It doesn’t look like it will happen for now, as Morgan doesn’t look at Karadec in that way. She views him as an annoying little brother, and that’s the way Olson has played the character throughout the first season. It’s the way she will continue to play this in the second season.

“I’m not playing into that. It’s so funny. I’m fully just being Morgan, who likes to bust his balls and treat him like a little brother who’s annoying.”

Olson also went into how she follows everything that is said about the couple on social media, and how much fun that is. People do have a lot of strong opinions about how the two should be romantically linked, although there is also for Morgan’s short-lived High Potential relationship with Tom (JD Pardo). Right now, it appears we'll have to wait for High Potential season 3 to get an answer as to whether one or any romantic relationship will happen, assuming we get it.

Morgan Not Seeing Karadec As A Romantic Partner Slows Down Their Love Plot

This Is A Much Bigger Slow-Burn Romance

episode 5 of high potential

By the end of High Potential season 1, it did look like Karadec may have developed some feelings for Morgan. However, as of right now, Morgan sees him as a brother. If she doesn’t view him as a romantic partner, then it puts the love plot on hold. Both of them need to have some sort of romantic feeling for each other to be able to go anywhere with this sort of arc.

Karadec’s Heartbreak In High Potential Ironically Proves Why He’s A Perfect Match For Morgan

Though the central partnership of High Potential has been rocky, one detail from Detective Karadec's past proves he could be Morgan's perfect match.

It doesn’t put the plot on hold forever, though - hopefully. Some people take much longer to realize that their feelings aren’t platonic, and it wouldn’t be surprising if Morgan is one of those people. At the same time, she is also someone who doesn’t put relationships first, and we’ve seen that with Tom. The case will always come first for her, so the idea of her seeing something more than a sibling relationship with Karadec doesn’t make sense.

Why Doing A Slow Burn For Morgan & Karadec Is Better For High Potential

The Romance Is Sure To Be Worth The Wait

By holding back on the romance, Morgan and Karadec get more time to learn each other’s quirks. They have more time to figure out what the other likes, whether it’s their favorite foods or favorite colors. There’s a chance to delve deeper into each other’s personalities, so that when their relationship finally does blossom, it is on a much deeper level.

We should see her in this light more, and opting to put a lot of focus on the relationship will take time away from that.

Then there’s the Roman plot, which currently sits with the news that he didn’t abandon his wife and daughter but was likely taken. It also sounds like he is still alive, and that will be a new puzzle for Morgan to solve. All the while, we also watch Morgan as a single mom. Sure, she has Ludo (Taran Killam) around to help, but they're separated, and she is still working hard to raise three children, who need her available emotionally. We should see her in this light more, and opting to put a lot of focus on the relationship will take time away from that.

The slow-burn romance is going to feel amazing when it does finally happen. Of course, this romance then needs to happen for it to pay off or many are left feeling baited, but it will feel much more rewarding as we get to see the relationship develop naturally and believably. It makes High Potential more exciting to watch, as we wait for the first sign that Morgan is looking at Karadec in a new light. At the same time, we’re more tuned into the series and willing to watch live every week, furthering the success of the show.
