Aspiring magic students wrre treated to a small preview of character creation for the delay Hogwarts Legacy’s release date to 2023.

Avalanche Software has taken on the responsibility of creating one of the largest and most ambitious Harry Potter games to date with Hogwarts Legacy. Despite a lack of information updates, the game is set to feature an extensive catalog of content fans of the magical series have wanted in video games for years, with broom flight, hippogriff flight, potion making, and even the ability to cast the infamous killing curse. The game also promises a rich spell combat system that allows players to craft their style of spell-slinging and create effective combos against enemies akin to action games like Devil May Cry. The most curious aspect of the Potter open-world RPG will be the roleplaying itself since Avalanche has stated that students will no longer be defined by the stereotypes of houses in Hogwarts Legacy like Gryffindor, but by moral choices made during their adventure.

As reported by IGN, Avalanche Software gave a tech talk during the 2022 Autodesk Vision Series, featuring an extensive backstage glimpse of Hogwarts Legacy. The video showcased how the staff utilized Autodesk to bring Hogwarts to life with techniques such as motion capture and texture mapping. Towards the end of the presentation, fans received a look at character customization in Hogwarts Legacy. IGN further reported that Reddit s ProfessionalLivid320 and cjgriff1476 helpfully provided screenshots which displayed such options as preset selection, skin color, face shapes, and eyewear. Further creation details were showcased in the presentation's full video ed by YouTuber BNS_Victory [LEEUW], including hairstyles, scars and facial markings, and finally, eye and eyebrow customization. As the visuals provide only a glimpse of the creation process, it’s safe to assume the final product may offer many other options upon release.

A Glimpse at Wizard and Witch Creation in Hogwarts Legacy

While some aspects of Hogwarts Legacy, like its stiff broom flight gameplay, are a bit concerning, it's good to see some communication on the project, if only a brief glimpse. In defense of Avalanche, the scope of Hogwarts Legacy is massive compared to the studio's other projects and other Harry Potter games in general. Ergo, it’s likely Avalanche views it as more beneficial to share information on game mechanics when more polished. Unfortunately, with the game delayed once already, the lack of quality updates has caused fans to become anxious over when the product will release and in what condition. Of course, further delays are always welcome if it eventually means a product worth the wait, especially given the massive scope of Hogwarts Legacy's open-world map alone.

With the end of the year fast approaching, it behooves Avalanche Software to keep up communication with fans on such an anticipated release as Hogwarts Legacy. Fans tend to respect openness in developers, especially with release dates and progress updates of games of such immense scope. Even small snippets like a preview of character creation are a welcome bone to chew on in most cases. Avalanche has made a lot of promises to the Harry Potter fanbase, and if competently delivered, Avalanche's Hogwarts Legacy could be one of the most fondly ed experiences of the Wizarding World.
