Set in the 1800s, Hogwarts Legacy could include a comprehensive history of the Elder Wand long before it's possessed by Dumbledore or Grindelwald. The Elder Wand changed hands several times before the modern Harry Potter stories, and during the timeframe set for Hogwarts Legacy, it was held by Loxias. Players have the option of being good or bad, so the inclusion of the Elder Wand could affect the outcome of the story based on the player's decisions.
Hogwarts Legacy is an open-world RPG set in the Wizarding World during the 1800s. Players will need to choose which side of history they'll play on as they traverse a mix of familiar and new locations. Having the option to be a dark wizard in Hogwarts Legacy means players may encounter another dark wizard in power during this time, Loxias, who happens to also be in possession of the Elder Wand.
In Harry Potter lore, Loxias was a dark wizard that murdered Barnabus Deverill to obtain the Elder Wand, which he then nicknamed the Deathstick. The legend hits somewhat of a grey area after that, because it's not confirmed who killed or took the wand from Loxias. If Loxias is included in Hogwarts Legacy, this could mean that players who choose a dark path might get closer to him, or those who follow the light could have hopes of defeating him. In either scenario, players may have the ability to take the Elder Wand for themselves.
Hogwarts Legacy Can Explore The Elder Wand's History
As most Hogwarts Legacy players and fans of Harry Potter know, the Elder Wand was likely forged as a gift for the eldest Peverell brother, Antioch. For a long time, the myth was clouded with the notion that the owner needed to be murdered for another to take possession of the ancient wand. It was proven later that disarming the wizard that owned it would alter the Elder Wand's loyalty. However, throughout history, the Elder Wand changed hands mostly through violent means.
From Peverell, the Elder Wand was taken by an unknown wizard before being held by Emeric the Evil. Emeric was a powerful dark wizard that eventually lost his life to Egbert the Egregious after a gruesome duel. Nearly a century later, Godelot claimed the Elder Wand and studied it to write texts describing dark magic. His son, Hereward, locked him away and took the wand next, killing his father in the process.
Hereward likely used the Elder Wand for more dark deeds after murdering his own father, but the next known owner was Barnabus Deverill. It's not currently known how Barnabus came into possession of the Elder Wand during the eighteenth century, but, given its history, it's likely that Barnabus killed someone for it. With Loxias taking possession next, Hogwarts Legacy may feature the character and include the Elder Wand as an obtainable object. However, it can also be included as a powerful wand held by an adversary in the game, and this may depend on the player's choices.
Hogwarts Legacy May Show Loxias' Possession of the Elder Wand
Barnabus Deverill held onto the Elder Wand for a good portion of the eighteenth century, until he was murdered by Loxias. In possession of the Elder Wand, Loxias was the first person to call it the Deathstick, and, like the wizards that came before him, he used it for dark purposes. If Loxias is included in Hogwarts Legacy, his possession of the Elder Wand could be a pivotal plot point.
According to Xenophilius Lovegood, the history of the Elder Wand becomes somewhat untraceable after Loxias possesses it. Lovegood assumes that either Arcus or Livius held the Elder Wand next, but this part of the ancient wand's history is mostly speculation. This could be one of the reasons that Hogwarts Legacy is set in the 1800s, to give players the opportunity to encounter or, potentially, acquire the Elder Wand.
Fighting Against Loxias in Hogwarts Legacy
With Loxias being at large around the same time that Hogwarts Legacy takes place, it's possible that players may have to fight against him and the Elder Wand. Even if players choose to be a dark wizard, they may find themselves in a power struggle for the Elder Wand. This fits with the violent history of this ancient tool. For those that choose to walk the path of the hero in Hogwarts Legacy, it may come down to fighting Loxias to save the Wizarding World. In either scenario, players may need to duel with a wizard in possession of the Elder Wand.
Due to the nature of the wand, and the established history of murder, players could potentially be making a life or death decision in regards to the wand's owner. Whether it's Loxias or players learn in Hogwarts Legacy who took the wand from him, they could find themselves in an intense situation. If players have the chance to kill or in some way defeat the previous owner, they may be able to wield the Elder Wand themselves.
Potential for Players to Obtain the Elder Wand
The next known owners of the Elder Wand after Loxias, and potentially Arcus or Livius, are the Wandmaker, Mykew Gregorovitch, Gellert Grindelwald, and then Albus Dumbledore. It is, therefore, possible that the player's character could take possession of the wand at some point in Hogwarts Legacy. Having the most powerful wand in the Wizarding World in an open-world RPG can bring about random attacks or a power struggle amongst the dark wizard community.
Having the Elder Wand as a potentially obtainable item would make it easier to duel other wizards, but it can also make the player a target. With the open-world concept used in Hogwarts Legacy, players will likely have run-ins with a large number of witches and wizards regardless of their allegiance. Having the Elder Wand can enhance the player's experience or increase the difficulty.
At this time, it's currently unclear if the Elder Wand will be a part of Hogwarts Legacy. However, the timeline for the wand aligns with the game, so it's likely there will at least be some mention of it. Depending on which characters are included in Hogwarts Legacy, there can be an ongoing power struggle between dark wizards to claim the wand for their own. Players may also have an encounter with the Elder Wand or be presented with the chance to possess it. Hogwarts Legacy, which is scheduled to release sometime in 2022, would benefit from exploring the history and potential inclusion of the Elder Wand.
