The recent Hogwarts Legacy gameplay showcase gave fans an exciting glimpse into their potential futures as students at Hogwarts. An extensive character creation system, breathtaking map design, and a complex combat system provided a satisfying preview of the game to many. But some enthusiasts of the Harry Potter franchise still have a couple of burning questions on their minds, which could delve into more detailed aspects of Hogwarts Legacy.
Of course, Avalanche Studios is unlikely to answer all the community's questions, so that some content is still left for the release of the full game. Its achievement list was already leaked following the November showcase, providing massive spoilers for Hogwarts Legacy's promising story, and so it would not be surprising if fans only received tidbits of information going forward. But with another gameplay showcase already promised, there is still plenty of opportunity for some of these questions to be answered.
Wands Could Be Customizable In Hogwarts Legacy
In the Harry Potter universe, wands are a big deal. There are no two wands that are exactly the same, as there are several aspects that impact its magical traits and personality: length, flexibility, wood, and core material. Similar to the Sorting Hat, wands are semi-sentient objects, and they choose their owners instead of the other way around. But since it's been confirmed that players can choose their Houses in Hogwarts Legacy, rather than relying on the Sorting Hat, this means that wand choice could also be up to players' own individual tastes and preferences.
However, even if this is true, it doesn't entirely explain how the wand system will work in the game. With so many factors going into in wand lore and creation, many fans are wondering whether this will transfer into gameplay in the form of customizable wands. It wouldn't be unthinkable, as most RPGs offer a wide variety of weapons for players to choose from - and since wands will be the only weapon available to Hogwarts students - not to mention the fact that Hogwarts Legacy probably won't include some spells from the book series - providing some customization options would likely be a smart move to make the game feel more personal.
Wand elements, such as core materials and wood types could possibly provide certain perks to players, allowing for different character builds - or at the very least, the ability to customize the look of their wand. Avalanche Studios hasn't commented on this matter, but as Reddit thepotterlegocy points out, there were three different wands featured in Hogwarts Legacy's November gameplay showcase. So while the extent of wand customization is unknown, it is likely to be in the game in some shape or form.
Talent Trees Could Be Extensive In Hogwarts Legacy
A crucial part of any good RPG game are complex, well-rounded skill trees. These allow players to tailor their gameplay experiences to their own personal playstyle. From the preview afforded by the March Hogwarts Legacy gameplay preview, skills (named Talents) will be divided into five categories, three of which have been confirmed. Core is the largest category with 17 slots, and it will provide general upgrades to the player's effectiveness. There is also the Stealth Talent, which will allow players to move sneakily, as well as the Room Of Requirement Talent, which upgrades the player's base of operations in-game. The last two Talent categories are unknown.
While fans have a general idea of what to expect from Talent categories, the actual skill trees remain to be seen. Understandably, many are curious to see the extent of what they will be able to do in their Hogwarts Legacy playthroughs. Especially with skill trees as large as Core, there's vast opportunity to individualize gameplay. It's possible that Avalanche Studios will give fans a closer look into Talent trees in the gameplay showcase, but only time will tell.
Hogwarts Legacy's Broomsticks Could Provide Unique Transportation
Although Quidditch has been left out of Hogwarts Legacy, broomsticks are confirmed to be one of the game's main forms of transportation. Of course, this will involve flying around the map, which is exciting - but there will obviously be some associated technicalities. For example, it's unlikely that there will be an infinite skybox in Hogwarts Legacy. Thus, naturally, many have begun to wonder exactly what the limitations will be.
Brooms could also prove as another avenue for customization. Whether it's limited to a catalogue of purchasable brooms, each with their own set perks and appearances, or if players will be able to upgrade a base broom however they please, being able to customize magical rides is an intriguing idea (though some brooms may actually break Harry Potter canon). Since broomsticks have been teased continuously since the game's announcement, they will seemingly be a major focus for the game - but many are hoping to get a bit more information about this unique aspect before its release.
Potion Brewing Could Be Complex In Hogwarts Legacy
For those who were fans of Potions class in the Harry Potter book series, potion brewing being a main feature in Hogwarts Legacy is thrilling news, but concerns have risen about how the system will actually work. In many RPGs, potion making can be a lackluster and oversimplified process, which can quickly become repetitive. Worryingly, looking at the previous Hogwarts Legacy showcases, it appears as though potion brewing only involves two main steps: gathering ingredients and performing quick time event actions.
But there's still hope for potion brewing yet. With Potions being a fully fleshed-out class - along with other classes never explored before Hogwarts Legacy - it could end up being a lot more complex than Avalanche Studios has let on so far. Showcases have mostly been limited to early-game content, and so potion making might become increasingly detailed as players level up their characters throughout the game. All fans can do for now is wait - but since it's implied to be a core part of Hogwarts Legacy gameplay, it would be exciting to learn more in the near future.
While fans have been provided with consistent teasers for the game, many are still craving more - and understandably so. Especially after the recent gameplay showcase, expectations are running high for this fantastical open-world RPG. Though it's not set to release until February 2023, many Harry Potter enthusiasts are anticipating this game like no other, and as more information continues to be released, this sentiment only seems to grow stronger for Hogwarts Legacy.
