Hogwarts Legacy's release date has been pushed back, but that gives the developers time to polish the game and continue to work on content that excludes Quidditch. While Quidditch might be an iconic part of Harry Potter because the titular character is a star player, there's no need to make it a playable sport in Hogwarts Legacy. In fact, it's better left unplayable.
Hogwarts Legacy is an open-world game taking place in the Harry Potter universe featuring elements of action, adventure, and role-playing. Instead of experiencing the school in Harry's shoes, Hogwarts Legacy is a prequel set in the 1890s, long before the events of the novels. The game features the ability to customize characters and choose the house into which players will be sorted. Even though it's taking place in a new era, Hogwarts Legacy promises an authentic Harry Potter experience.
While the modern state of the Harry Potter universe is greatly fleshed out, there remain a lot of mysteries and opportunities to be explored in the past. Given the time difference between the original setting and the setting of Hogwarts Legacy, it's likely that players won't see everything included from the modern era of Harry Potter. Due to the state of wizard technology and the inherent flaws of the game, Quidditch should not be included. If it appears in Hogwarts Legacy, it shouldn't be a playable event.
Quidditch Brings Only Problems For Hogwarts Legacy
Solely looking at the rules of Quidditch shows that it's a flawed game. In addition, Hogwarts Legacy's Quidditch brooms would be slower than those in the novels due to the time period in which it is set. If the speed of the Golden Snitch is the same, then Quidditch games in Hogwarts Legacy would take a lot longer to finish since it would be more difficult for the seekers to catch the Snitch, which is the only way to end the game. In practice, this would make Quidditch games take far too long, and in Hogwarts Legacy there is likely little payoff from having it as a mini-game.
The world of Harry Potter has a lot that can be explored in Hogwarts Legacy to make it feel both fresh and authentic. Although it will feature a massive, open-world map, Hogwarts Legacy doesn't need to include every aspect from the novels, movies, or previous games. It would be better to showcase what the wizard world was like before it becomes the universe with which fans are familiar. Deviating from the familiar will let the developers make content that is unique to the past of Harry Potter and possibly show the origins of what makes the universe familiar in Hogwarts Legacy.
