The purported publishing date for an official art book seems to suggest that Hogwarts Legacy companion book narrowing the launch window is a solid lead, and a bit more concrete than nebulous rumors, but those eager to get into the wizarding world shouldn't expect the art book's release date to necessarily indicate that of the game, nor are either set in stone.
Hogwarts Legacy was revealed during a PlayStation 5 showcase in September 2020, and has yet to receive another trailer. It was originally slated to release in 2021 for most of the major platforms - PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC - but was delayed until 2022 over a year ago. The game is set to be an open world action-RPG, with players taking control of their own, custom created Hogwarts student sometime in the 1800s.
According to reported Hogwarts Legacy release date perfect for fans, nearly coinciding with the traditional start of the Hogwarts school year on September 1. The art book is supposedly being written by Jody Revenson, who is responsible for many books expanding on the Wizarding World franchise. The line of thinking follows the assumption that if the official art book is releasing, Hogwarts Legacy itself must be coming out around the same time.
Hogwarts Legacy's September 2022 Release Window Isn't Official
The ISBN revealed by The Rowling Library seems to be legitimate, appearing on Google Books with its actual title and on various retail sites under the name "Untitled Video Game Art Book," but there doesn't appear to be any corroborating evidence for Revenson's involvement. This isn't to say The Rowling Library is incorrect, just that this should be treated the same as any other rumor or speculation - with a healthy dose of skepticism until confirmed. Eager fans shouldn't rush Hogwarts Legacy, and an official announcement for the release date will come in due time.
The Rowling Library itself has no connection to the Wizarding World nor Hogwarts Legacy publisher Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment (releasing Hogwarts Legacy under the Portkey Games moniker). Since The Art and Making of Hogwarts Legacy doesn't even appear to be officially announced, there's no reason its publication date can't be changed. September 6 could very well be a placeholder until Portkey Games and Hogwarts Legacy developer Avalanche Software is comfortable setting a deadline for the game. Harry Potter fans have been waiting a long time for an experience like Hogwarts Legacy, but they shouldn't get their hopes up for a September release until there's been an official announcement.
