WARNING! This article contains SPOILERS for Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves!Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves reveals that Holga Kilgore was exiled for marrying Bradley Cooper’s character Marlamin, whom she visits to get closure on their relationship. Bradley Cooper briefly appears in the 2023 Dungeons & Dragons movie as the halfling ex-husband of Michelle Rodriguez’s Holga Kilgore, an Uthgardt human barbarian. Even after Holga chose to marry Marlamin despite knowing she would be banished from the Elk tribe, the couple divorced before the events of Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves.

Although Holga Kilgore hasn’t officially been part of the Elk tribe since before she met Chris Pine’s lute-playing bard Edgin, she still holds sentimental value for her past and homeland in Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. The movie highlights the pain of Holga’s banishment through her strained relationship with her ex-husband Marlamin, though the Dungeons & Dragons characters don’t go into detail about why Holga’s tribe had forbidden her from marrying Bradley Cooper’s character in the first place. While it’s clear that the Elk tribe disapproved of Marlamin, Holga’s banishment is underscored mainly by the history between their two races in Dungeons & Dragons.

Holga Kilgore Was Banished Because Of Her Tribe’s Prejudice Against Halflings Like Marlamin

Holga Kilgore was exiled for marrying Marlamin because he was an outsider, but more so because he was a halfling. Dungeons & Dragons species lore reveals that the Uthgardt barbarians held significant prejudice against halflings, but this hasn’t stopped Marlamin from being interested in multiple barbarian women or Holga from being attracted to halfling men. In Dungeons & Dragons history, Uthgardt barbarians forbid halflings from coming onto their lands, and while the Elk tribe was notably resistant to any outsiders, the species’ particular prejudice against halflings reveals why her banishment was so severe.

Since Holga and Marlamin have divorced, it’s unclear why she wasn’t able to re the Elk tribe in the years before Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. Holga continued to harbor pain over her exile, and likely still hasn’t forgiven her own family for sending her away simply because of who she chose to marry. Additionally, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves’ ending shows Holga Kilgore being smitten with another halfling man while she’s being named a hero of the realm, so it seems that she prefers to find love over being accepted by or welcomed back into her tribe.

Why Marlamin & Holga Separated Before Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves suggests that Holga Kilgore is still in love with Bradley Cooper’s character Marlamin, as he was the one who ended their marriage. Marlamin reveals that he decided to separate from Holga because of her inability to move past her banishment, as well as his struggles with fearing for her safety on her thieving adventures. Holga worried that their separation was because she wasn’t enough for him, but Marlamin ensures her this isn’t the case. Although Holga is exiled from the Elk tribe and no longer has her husband, the Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves’ barbarian character still has the love of her chosen family with Edgin, Kira, Simon, and Doric.
