Developer Team Cherry has responded to a comment on the Hollow Knight Kickstarter about the sequel Hollow Knight: Silksong for the first time in years. The original Hollow Knight was created thanks to a successful Kickstarter campaign in 2014, beating their goal of $35,000 and pulling in $58,893 from over 2000 backers.
After six long years of waiting with very little news from the developers, Silksong finally received a release window for 2025 during the April 2 Nintendo Direct. Kickstarter backer Felyndiira left a comment on the Hollow Knight Kickstarter asking whether backers would be receiving their Silksong keys over email or another means. Team Cherry has responded to the comment, stating that it would be reaching out before the release to give fans a chance to update their email addresses and which platforms they want their copy of the game to be for. The response in full is below:
And don't worry! We'll be reaching out prior to launch of Hollow Knight: Silksong to survey backers for their current email addresses and their platform/s of choice.
Hollow Knight Backers Still Set To Receive Silksong For Free
What Started As A DLC Became The Most Anticipated Game For Millions
The success of the Hollow Knight Kickstarter campaign in 2014 just barely allowed the team to reach the $56,000 stretch goal of adding a second playable character. From the very beginning, the needle-wielding, high-jumping Hornet was intended to be a companion to the Knight. Hornet's story was always meant to take place in a new location, but it was originally going to be a short DLC.

Hollow Knight: Silksong Might Get A Physical Release At Launch
According to a posting on a Polish retailer's website, it appears that Hollow Knight: Silksong may be getting a physical release at launch this time.
In a Kickstarter update posted in 2019, Team Cherry revealed that what started as a DLC grew in size until it couldn't be contained within the confines of the original Hollow Knight. But since Hornet's story was still technically a stretch goal of the original Kickstarter, Team Cherry ensured that all fans who backed the project for at least the lowest tier of $10 AUD are entitled to get Silksong on a console of their choice. Backers should keep an eye out for an official email from Team Cherry with details about the reward.

The Kickstarter Comments Are Full Of Positivity
Despite being very quiet about the development of Silksong in the past six years, Team Cherry continues to receive an outpouring of positivity. Since the last time the studio responded on Kickstarter over four years ago, several fans have popped into the comments section to tell Team Cherry to keep their heads up and not take negativity to heart, and to take their time on their next project.
When it was first announced, Hollow Knight was just a ion project from a small team. No one could have anticipated how popular the title would go on to become, with the sequel becoming the most wishlisted game on Steam for a long time. It's wild to think that the 2014 Kickstarter only had 2,158 backers, when the game went on to sell over 6 million copies on Steam alone (according to Levvvel). Hollow Knight: Silksong is looking like it'll be just as successful, as fans remain positive and hopeful after years of waiting.
