As is the case with many Elite Enemies, beating The Ascended in Honkai: Star Rail 1.2 update and its abundant pieces of content – including new story missions, events, playable characters, and more. The Ascended is an Elite Enemy that players have to take down during the campaign. Nevertheless, they become a recurring opponent with the Stagnant Shadow: Shape of Celestial challenge, which can be found on the Alchemy Commission map.

The new opponent has a direct connection to the Abundance plague caused by the presence of the Stellaron aboard the Xianzhou Luofu, so players will see themselves with no choice but to beat The Ascended in Honkai: Star Rail in order to progress with their heroic activities. This opponent has a particular set of skills that can be difficult to counter, such as reducing the team’s maximum restorable HP through healing and often applying Wind Shear on the party .

The Ascended’s Weaknesses In Honkai: Star Rail

To adequately counter The Ascended and beat them, players have to use characters that deal damage equivalent to the opponent’s weaknesses. This will allow them to inflict Weakness Break against the enemy’s Toughness Bar more swiftly and often, which in turn has the team take less damage and be able to deal more damage while they are vulnerable.

The Ascended is weak against Physical, Lightning, and Ice in Honkai: Star Rail. They are also resistant to Wind, which is their own element. This means that the team’s damage dealers, ideally, need to be at least one of the three aforementioned elements.

Best Team Comps For The Ascended In Honkai: Star Rail

Honkai Star Rail's Jing Yuan extends his arm in a pose, with a bright yellow backlight behind him.

The best team comps in Honkai: Star Rail for facing The Ascended are those that feature DPS and sub-DPS characters that deal Physical, Lightning, or Ice damage. As such, the team’s main DPS could be a character such as Jing Yuan, as well as Yanqing, or even Sushang. Players can even use two of these characters, one as the main DPS and the other as the sub-DPS. Another damage-dealing option is Honkai: Star Rail’s Physical Trailblazer (Destruction), though they are suboptimal when compared to the previous characters.

An important part of this team comp is the healer. Because The Ascended deals debuffs, a healer capable of eliminating that status effect is recommended. Natasha is a great choice for this role as she not only heals and cleanses the team from debuffs but also deals Physical DMG whenever she is not using her Skill.

Although incapable of removing debuffs, a strongly built Bailu can also be good, as she also deals Lightning DMG while constantly healing the team through Invigoration. Although he does not match the opponent’s elemental weaknesses, Luocha is also a great healer with the ability to remove debuffs in Honkai: Star Rail.

Best Team Comps To Beat The Ascended

Main DPS & Sub-DPS

  • Jing Yuan (Lighting - Erudition)
  • Kafka (Lightning - Nihility)
  • Yanqing (Ice - Hunt)
  • Sushang (Physical - Hunt)
  • Trailblazer (Physical - Destruction)

Healer

  • Natasha (Physical - Abundance) - Elemental advantage, but limited healing at E0
  • Bailu (Lightning - Abundance) - Cannot clear debuffs, but has elemental advantage
  • Luocha (Imaginary - Abundance) - No elemental advantage, but can clear debuffs

or Shielder

  • Tingyun (Lightning - Harmony) - Elemental advantage and DPS buffer
  • Gepard (Ice - Preservation) - Best shielder with elemental advantage
  • March 7th (Ice - Preservation) - F2P shielder with elemental advantage

The last role in the team comp is that of an additional character. This will ultimately depend on what players prefer: offense or defense. If they prefer offense, a character such as Tingyun is the best choice, as she deals Lightning DMG and can substantially boost the main DPS’ DMG. If players prefer to play it safe, they can choose a shielder, such as Gepard or March 7th. Both deal Ice DMG and are capable of shielding, so they can be smart additions to a team comp tailored to defeating The Ascended in Honkai: Star Rail.

The Ascended Moves & Tips To Beat The Ascended In Honkai: Star Rail

The Ascended poses with her staff in Honkai Star Rail, superimposed over an image of gameplay.

Honkai: Star Rail’s The Ascended is a very aggressive foe that can devastate challengers if they do not prepare a proper team comp. According to Game8, they use a total of five different skills in battle. Three of them are focused on dealing damage and, with it, potentially inflicting the Wind Shear DoT effect on party .

Rite Of Great Arbor Metamorphosis deals Wind DMG to a random party member, with a chance of inflicting Wind Shear. Guiding Vulturnus, on the other hand, hits a targeted party member and adjacent allies, while also having a chance of inflicting Wind Shear.

The last directly offensive move that The Ascended uses is called Arboreal Thorns. This skill deals Wind DMG to a single target and can also inflict Wind Shear. The opponent’s most dangerous abilities, however, are not focused on dealing damage against Honkai: Star Rail players. Rite Of Subduing Prana is a setup move that makes The Ascended enter a state called Japa and, with it, case Black Prana’s Snare on the entire party during their next action. Black Prana’s Snare is the aforementioned debuff ability, which causes Prana-Siphon, a status effect that reduces the party’s maximum restorable HP by 30%.

The Prana-Siphon debuff can be very dangerous, especially during the later stages of the fight, as it can essentially limit party ’ survivability.

The best way to counter The Ascended in Honkai: Star Rail is to quickly dispose of any allies they have – The Ascended often comes accompanied by two Disciples of Sanctus Medicus: Ballistarius – and then focus the team’s damage to eliminate the target. The mobs that The Ascended brings into battle can be a nuisance during the long run, so getting them out of the picture as quickly as possible can reduce the team’s damage intake and allow them to direct their entire efforts to beating The Ascended.

The general strategy for facing this Elite Enemy in Honkai: Star Rail is the same as most opponents: deal damage, mitigate any damage the party takes, and, if possible, clear out any debuffs. Before getting inflicted with Prana-Siphon, however, players should try to avoid it altogether.

The best strategy to avoid Prana-Siphon is to inflict Weakness Break against The Ascended’s Toughness Bar immediately after they cast Rite Of Subduing Prana. This will stun the opponent and prevent them from using Black Prana’s Snare and, subsequently, applying the Prana-Siphon debuff. To do this, players should go full-on offensive with all party – and use any offensive Ultimates to ensure this.

If the team comp’s healer and match The Ascended’s elemental weaknesses, inflicting Weakness Break before Black Prana’s Snare should come across easily.

Honkai: Star Rail’s The Ascended is not as difficult as an Echo of War boss fight, but for a mini-boss, they stand on a higher level – especially if players do not use the correct elements to face them. The Elite Enemy is but one of the many new additions added to Honkai: Star Rail with Version 1.2, which is already live across all platforms on which the game is available.
