There may be terrible news for players expecting Screwllum in Divergent Universe in Honkai: Star Rail. Players can visit him on Penacony’s Radiant Feldspar map to challenge it.
So far, developer HoYoverse has not indicated that Screwllum will be a playable character any time soon, but there have been several leaks about him becoming usable by players in the future. These leaks are scarce and devoid of too many details, but his name as a playable character has been recurrent over the past few update leaks, indicating that he would be arriving in the near future, perhaps after Version 3.0. Leaks about Screwllum in Honkai: Star Rail, for instance, indicated that he would be an Imaginary character on the Path of the Erudition, but that may change soon.
Screwllum May Never Be Released In Honkai: Star Rail
The Leaker Also Mentions His Release May Occur In The Far Future
In fact, Screwllum’s release may be postponed indefinitely, and there is a chance he may never get an actual release. The information comes from a leaker known as Seele Leaks, which was then shared in a post tagged as “Questionable” on Reddit. The leak highlights that the rumored character Mr. Reca will be released in Version 3.0 as a 4-star character, then proceeds to mention the possibility of Screwllum’s canceled or postponed release in Honkai: Star Rail.
A comment left by the who originally reposted the rumor mentioned that the leaker is likely very confident in the information considering how bold the statement regarding Screwllum’s release is.
Rumors Of Screwllum’s Canceled Release Contradict Previous Leaks In Honkai: Star Rail
Leaks Highlighted The Character’s Release Occurring Soon
The rumors that Screwllum’s release will be pushed further down the game’s pipeline or not even occur at all are terrible news for players who have eagerly been awaiting his arrival as a playable character in the turn-based RPG. Screwllum has been teased as an NPC since the game’s early days and was later introduced via story quests involving Herta Space Station. Screwllum’s demeanor and personality were an instant selling point for many and the fact that he is ranked as one of the galaxy’s top hackers, only truly competing with Silver Wolf in Honkai: Star Rail, instigates curiosity.
Since his debut as an NPC, there have been rare yet consistent leaks talking about his possible release date and all of them continuously pointed toward near updates – all of which never truly saw Screwllum released as a playable character. This somewhat persists until now, but the most recent leak seems to contradict all the previous leaks. If Screwllum’s release is nowhere to be seen in the near future, players saving their Stellar Jade and, therefore, pulls from the Honkai: Star Rail banner system, may have to give up on the idea of pulling for Screwllum any time soon.

Honkai: Star Rail - Rappa Ascension & Trace Materials
You can pre-farm Rappa’s materials in Honkai: Star Rail to ensure you have most of the items to upgrade her to level 80 once she is released.
Of course, this would allow them to finally use their savings on new character releases, such as Rappa in Version 2.6 or the rumored 5-star form for Tingyun in Version 2.7. As the game progresses, the gameplay meta is actively changing, and relying uniquely on older characters because players are saving toward an unconfirmed playable character such as Screwllum can put players behind significantly, especially when it comes to endgame activities that require multiple types of team comps. This includes the Divergent Universe and other challenges that are more difficult than a regular Simulated Universe run in Honkai: Star Rail.
Why Screwllum Will Likely Be Released In Honkai: Star Rail’s Future
To Not Release Screwllum As A Playable Character Would Be A Waste
Despite the leak and the somewhat reliable track record of the leaker themselves, the idea of Screwllum never being released sounds unreasonable. If the character’s release is pushed down the pipeline, that is most likely to work on the specifics of his kit, but to not release him at all would be a waste. The character’s body design is already concluded and, in fact, is within the game, even if limited to an NPC model. Nevertheless, Screwllum’s design does stand out from the average NPC, giving him enough differences to be targeted as a playable character in Honkai: Star Rail.
Important characters like Screwllum tend to become playable after some time – getting to know them better attracts the audience and allows players to develop an interest in actively controlling them in the overworld and in combat instances. They do not need to be released immediately upon their presentation as an NPC like Rappa is in Version 2.6. Some characters are shown off and, after they’ve had some development in the story, they can become playable. This is the case for Firefly in Honkai: Star Rail, for instance, who was presented early on in the Penacony storyline.
While Screwllum has already played an interesting role in the campaign and event-related story quests, he may still have a moment to shine brighter as an NPC in future updates. It is uncertain exactly when and how this would occur but if this does happen, it should be likely that he will then be released as a playable character. This would allow HoYoverse to capitalize on the momentum of his presence within the story and try to get a profit out of players’ increased interest in Screwllum, allowing them to use him for gameplay in Honkai: Star Rail.

Honkai Star Rail 2.6 Character Banner Leaks May Finally Make Me Invest In 5-Star Eidolons
The new Honkai: Star Rail 2.6 banner leaks are looking enticing, but not because of a new character. Instead, I may invest in a DPS’ Eidolons.
While the leaker does hold some reliability and, as appointed by the repost, they seem confident in the information, the leak should be taken with a huge grain of salt. The rumor about Screwllum’s postponed or canceled release as a playable character may be incorrect, incomplete, or simply subject to change as HoYoverse works on future updates and character releases. Although it’s impossible to predict when Screwllum will arrive, it is highly likely that he will at some point. His relevance as a character in Honkai: Star Rail would make it a waste for HoYoverse to not see him released.
