Summary

  • More D&D characters, such as Drizzt Do'Urden and Mirt, deserve their time to shine in Honor Among Thieves 2 with cameos rewarding fans' knowledge of deep lore.
  • Including popular villains like Sarevok and heroes like Cadderly Bonaduce and Arilyn Moonblade would excite fans and add depth to the story.
  • Cameos from characters like Minsc would not only be amusing but also complement the practical effects and animal elements of the setting.

Great Wizard Elminster Aumur as Simon's ancestor was a fun reference to one of the most powerful mages in the Forgotten Realms version of the campaign. Given that the setting for the adventures of Edgin Darvis (Chris Pine), Holga Kilgore (Michelle Rodriguez), and the rest of their party is full of other well-known figures there's no shortage to choose from.

If a sequel to the rousing film ever gets greenlit, it makes sense that more D&D heroes and villains will appear. The red wizards might have been stopped for now and the resurrection tablet secured, but there are plenty of other liches lurking in the Forgotten Realms, not to mention allies to meet in pursuit of another artifact. Cameos can be part of the Dungeons & Dragons Easter eggs that made the movie so enjoyable, though some characters might be difficult to work into the next story no matter how revered and popular they are.

10 Drizzt Do'Urden

Drizzt Do'Urden wields his two scimitars in Dungeons & Dragons.

There's almost no character as famous in Dungeons & Dragons as Drizzt Do'Urden, a dark elf (drow) ranger who almost appeared in Honor Among Thieves. Created by R. A. Salvatore for the Icewind Dale Trilogy, Drizzt went on to become a fan favorite character in the Forgotten Realms setting, and aside from appearing in dozens of D&D novels also stars in his own book series The Legend of Drizzt. Unfortunately, there's some controversy about including drow in live-action Dungeons & Dragons because of their skin color, but it's not impossible.

9 Mirt

Mirt-Dungeons-and-Dragons

Mirt goes all the way back to when Ed Greenwood first developed the Forgotten Realms campaign. A corpulent, pompous adventurer and a former Lord of Waterdeep, he made his fortune as a mercenary in Undermountain before acquiring a reputation as Mirt "the moneylender." Mirt was the first character Greenwood developed even before he'd fully fleshed out his vision for the realms themselves, and including him, even in a simple scene at a bar swapping old Harper stories with Edgin, would be a treat for hardcore fans with extensive knowledge of Dungeons & Dragons development.

8 Sarevok

The main villain in Baldur's Gate, Sarevok is a powerful deathbringer and offspring of Bhaal. The Lord of Murder's son would make an interesting adversary in Honor Among Thieves, whose presence could be operating as part of a greater threat, the way the red wizards did in the first film. Even if he only had as much screen time as Szass Tam, seeing Sarevok in all his glory would be exciting for fans of the game series.

7 Cadderly Bonaduce

Appearing in a series of novels by R.A. Salvatore, Cadderly Bonaduce was a cleric and a priest of Deneir, the god of knowledge, though not particularly devout. Living in a massive library and dedicating himself to learning, Cadderly never let his studies consume him if there was a pretty girl nearby. He proved clerics could be interesting and even cool, and a cameo would probably incorporate his considerable intellect into the plot somehow, along with a little theological discussion.

6 Arilyn Moonblade

A half-elf assassin introduced in the first book in the Songs & Swords series titled Elfshadow by Elaine Cunningham, Arilyn Moonblade was also a member of The Harpers, one of the many D&D factions in Honor Among Thieves. Through some creative license, she could be an old friend of Edgin's, or even become a potential love interest. Her fiery personality would probably grab his attention and lead to an exciting will-they-won't-they romance that was absent from the first film due to Edgin still mourning the loss of his wife.

5 Minsc

Dungeons Dragons Minsc and Hamster

From the popular Baldur's Gate game series, Minsc is a gentle giant who adventures along the Sword Coast with Boo, his adorable animal companion. Minsc should be included in Honor Among Thieves 2 if only so that fans get to see his miniature giant space hamster. Even just a scene involving one of Minsc and Boo's conversations would not only be amusing, but also complement the way that Honor Among Thieves handled the animal elements and practical effects of the setting.

4 Khelben Blackstaff

Khelben Blackstaff Arunsun from Dungeons and Dragons riding a horse.

Considering that Dagult Neverember, who debuted in Blackstaff Tower in 2008 was one of 7 Dungeons & Dragons characters in Honor Among Thieves, it only makes sense that Khelben Blackstaff make an appearance himself. Including the Lord Mage of Waterdeep would be an excuse to visit the City of Splendors, a crown jewel in the North and a place of intrigue ruled by a hidden council of masked lords (one of whom was Khelben before his death). Perhaps Edgin and the party's services, or even making Simon one of his apprentices, would appeal to the archmage of Blackstaff Tower.

3 Shakti Hunrzin

A drow warrior with a red sword on the cover of Dungeons & Dragons Cutter

Considered unappealing by drow standards, Shakti Hunrzin defied the fates and rose to power through sheer determination. Appearing in the Starlight and Shadows trilogy of Dungeons & Dragons novels set in the Forgotten Realms, she had a personal vendetta against Liriel Baenre, the beautiful daughter of Menzoberranzan's archmage, who relentlessly bullied Shakti at Arach-Tinilith. If there's still a chance of Honor Among Thieves 2 being confirmed, and it includes Shakti, fans can look forward to seeing the Forgotten Realms' version of Severus Snape mixed with a bit of young Yennefer from The Witcher.

2 Artemis Entreri

Artemis Entreri Dungeons & Dragons Cover

Even if including a character like Drizzt was problematic because of the color of his skin combined with how ruthless and evil the drow can be, there's no reason why his arch-nemesis, Artemis Entreri couldn't be brought into Honor Among Thieves 2. Perhaps the World's Greatest Assassin might be sent to get revenge on Edgin for saving Neverwinter and getting Forge imprisoned - the best assassin in Faerûn seems like the perfect choice for a quick cameo since no one would ever see him coming!

1 Bruenor Battlehammer

Bruenor Battlehammer from Dungeons and Dragons in a blizzard while holding an axe and shield.

A formidable dwarven warrior, Bruenor Battlehammer was the king of Mithral Hall at different times and a friend to Drizzt. A cameo with him could include a competition between him and Holga, and it would be a fun way to introduce the Companions of the Hall and perhaps even the Council of 12 Peers. It's possible that he would be compared to some of the dwarven characters in The Lord of the Rings movies, but if written well, the warmer side of his personality, like the one who adopted Wulgar, should shine through in a sequel to Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves.
