The latest trailer for Horizon Forbidden West's original launch was planned for the 2021 holiday season; however, its release was pushed into 2022 to give the team at Guerrilla the time to deliver the high standards that fans expect. As with many games, the coronavirus pandemic was also cited as a factor in this delay.

Horizon Forbidden West will follow on from 2017s Horizon Zero Dawn. Players will once more step into the shoes of Aloy as they seek to forge their way through a futuristic yet primal America and beyond. This time, Aloy will venture even further than ever before, and into the titular Forbidden West. Here, she will come across not only new mechanical enemies that she will have to overcome, but also several new tribes. New enemy types include a host of formidable foes such as the ferocious Horizon Forbidden West Slitherfang enemy.

The latest trailer for Horizon Forbidden West has showcased the new tribes and teased more of the world beyond the USA. Guerrilla shared that “... the inhabitants of the world of Horizon are divided into tribes, each of which has its own history and traditions.” Aloy will have the opportunity to meet characters from each of these tribes throughout the game, and this will offer players the chance to “learn more about the rich and authentic tribal cultures in Horizon Forbidden West.” One of the tribes mentioned is the Utaru tribe, who sing to the land in a bid to heal the earth of the red blight that is causing death and destruction. Other tribes such as the Carja fear the lands in the Forbidden West and guard their borders in order to protect themselves from the malice that they perceive to lie beyond their domain. Meanwhile, even further into these new lands, three clans have united in a “fragile peace,” as they seek to defend themselves from yet another tribe – that of Regala and her rebels.

The tribes outlined in the trailer, along with the new and fearsome machines, should add a deeper layer of immersion to Horizon Forbidden West’s gameplay. What is not clear from this recent video, however, is which of these tribes may be friend and which may be foe for Aloy. There appears to be a lot of segregation between the various tribes, and the trailer exudes more and more tension the further it plays, with the lands themselves becoming increasingly hostile.

Along with the imminent release of Horizon Forbidden West, Sony has also announced a new VR game that will take place in the world of Horizon. Horizon Call of the Mountain will be coming to the newly revealed PSVR 2, offering players a new perspective on this land, as well as introducing a brand-new character. At the time of writing, no firm release date has been announced for either the hardware or the game itself.  Thankfully, for fans eager to step back into Aloy's world, there is not too much longer to wait until Horizon Forbidden West finally releases on PlayStation consoles, and each new tribe along with the vast lands they live in can be explored first-hand.
