The long-awaited PlayStation 5. The 15-minute deep dive into the gameplay of Horizon Forbidden West showcases some of the immense beauty of the forgotten lands of San Francisco, showing off rich greens and the beautiful blues of the water surrounding the world.
Horizon Forbidden West was revealed last year during Sony's big reveal of the PlayStation 5. For the last year, Sony has been keeping the project close to the chest, but in anticipation of its relatively imminent release, the team at Guerrilla prepared an extensive demo of the game to give players an idea of what Alloy's new story will entail.
Horizon Forbidden West has a huge underwater focus. The rest of the game looks to have gotten a big upgrade as well from combat to movement, and overall quality. It's safe to say anyone who is a fan of the first game will be satisfied and those who may not have resonated with it may be more intrigued by the sequel.
Horizon Forbidden West has no release date right now, but the team is apparently on track with development. Whether or not that means it will release this year or in 2022 remains to be seen, but one has to imagine that if it's coming this year, Sony will need to figure that out soon. Earlier this year, Sony said that Horizon Forbidden West was planned for the second half of 2021, but it's unclear if that still remains the plan.
Regardless, this pre-E3 look at the game was a welcomed surprise and will hopefully tide fans over until whenever the game actually releases. Whether that's this fall or next year, this healthy sized gameplay demo should give fans plenty to chew on for the coming weeks thanks to all of the story teases, various details lurking in the background, and innovations in gameplay. It'll also be interesting to see how something this gorgeous ends up running on PS4, as Sony doubled down on the cross-generation release of Horizon Forbidden West during the presentation.
