Survey Drones are one set of collectibles that can be found in Horizon Forbidden West. Collecting each of the Survey Drones involves climbing up to a high point and jumping to them to retrieve a module. There are 10 Survey Drones to find and collect in Horizon Forbidden West, and they can be used at the Base to change the room display inside the dome. Before Survey Drone modules can be collected and used, players will need to progress in the main story.
The Survey Drones may be spotted first in Horizon Forbidden West before they can be collected. Aloy won't be able to interact with the Survey Drones until the fifth main story mission, "Death's Door," is completed. After finishing "Death's Door," the Base will be set up, and players can interact with the PSiCLOPS console, which is in the same room as GAIA. The console can be used to connect Survey Drone modules after they're retrieved.
To reach a Survey Drone and collect the module from it, Aloy will need to climb up to a high point adjacent to the drone's path. A Survey Drone's path can be scanned so players will know where it can be intercepted. Each drone will have a point in its path where it stops near a spot that Aloy can jump from to grab it. The process will need to be repeated for all 10 Survey Drones to complete the module collection.
Retrieving Survey Drone Modules in Horizon Forbidden West
In Horizon Forbidden West, unlocking the Survey Drone modules will give players the option to change the appearance of the Base's dome. After jumping on a Survey Drone and looting the module from it, Aloy can return to the Base and connect the module to the PSiCLOPS console. Once the module is connected, an image of the region where the Survey Drone was located can be projected on the inside of the dome. There are 10 different appearances that can be collected from Survey Drones in Horizon Forbidden West.
Survey Drone Locations
- Plainsong: Northeast of the Plainsong settlement, a Survey Drone can be collected by climbing to the top of the nearby ruins.
- No Man’s Land: This Survey Drone is south of Plainsong at a Thunderjaw site, and it can be collected from the top of the nearby rock formation.
- The Dry Yearn: After clearing Repair Bay TAU in one of Horizon Forbidden West's main missions, this drone will become accessible. It's located west of Plainsong past the mountain ridge, and it can be reached by climbing to the top of the nearby rock formation.
- The Greenswell: West of Plainsong near the central-northern border of the map, there's a Survey Drone flying around a campfire. The cliff nearby can be climbed to reach the drone.
- Thornmarsh: Northeast of the Thornmarsh settlement, this Survey Drone can be collected from the top of a tall, dead tree. There's a grapple point that can be used to jump in order to get to the top of the tree.
- The Stillstands: In the southern region on the map near the center of the desert area, there's a Survey Drone that can be reached by climbing to the top of the nearby ruins.
- The Graypeak: This Survey Drone can be found south of the snowy mountains and west of the Memorial Grove and Arena. A Horizon Forbidden West Slaughterspine is patrolling the area, but it can be avoided by heading to the drone from the north and using the wooden platform on the cliffside to jump to it.
- The Sheerside Mountains: In the northwestern part of the map north of the Bulwark, there's a Survey Drone that can be reached by climbing up to the wooden platform above where the drone gets to a low point and stops.
- Stand of the Sentinels: A Survey Drone can be found east of Tide's Reach and can be collected by climbing up using the nearby fallen tree.
- Isle of Spires: There's a Survey Drone in the western part of the map just outside of Legacy's Landfall, and it can be reached by climbing up the nearby ruins.
Each Survey Drone location will have a quick climbing challenge nearby where Horizon Forbidden West's Aloy can get high enough to jump to the drone. The modules can be returned to the Base one by one or kept and delivered all at once. A Survey Drone is also one of the items required to unlock the Recovered 5 Collectables trophy. Survey Drone modules are one set of several collectibles that can be found in Horizon Forbidden West.
