This article contains a brief mention of sexual assault.
One of the stars of Kevin Costner's four-part epic Costner's long-gestating ion project has run into a bevy of issues ranging from lack of funding to multiple legal battles, and while it was originally planned to include four interconnected epic movies, its future remains uncertain at best. Costner's personal financial stake in the movie along with his decades-long commitment to the project has kept hope alive, but the obstacles to its completion have continued to pile up.
Primetime Emmy Award-winning actor Glynn Turman opened up about the Horizon franchise's future in an exclusive interview with ScreenRant's Liam Crowley on the red carpet of the premiere of Tyler Perry's thriller Straw. The former child actor more recently known for his roles in The Wire, In Treatment, and Fargo, spoke with Crowley specifically about where the franchise currently stands, both in production and release. Turman, who is slated for an as-yet-undisclosed role in at least the second and third chapters of Horizon, had this to say about the planned movies:
ScreenRant: I loved the first Horizon movie and I’m still waiting to see Part 2 because of the whole theatrical release shakeup. If I’m not mistaken, are you filming Part 3 right now?
Glynn Turman: They started filming Part 3. I don’t know if they’ve continued it. I think there was a temporary shutdown and I don’t know if they went back, but Part 2, I can’t wait to see. It’s kind of frustrating on my part, everybody’s part that’s connected, but I love Part 1 as well. I’m glad you did as well. It takes us back to old-fashioned moviemaking and watching stories and Kevin is one of the best at doing that, so my hat’s off to him. What a bold move he made.
ScreenRant: Have you heard any updates on the release of Part 2?
Glynn Turman: Not a thing.
What Glynn Turman's Comments Mean For The Future Of The Horizon Saga
They Prove The Franchise's Future Remains Bleak
Turman's comments the ongoing lack of clarity surrounding the Horizon: An American Saga franchise that has been endemic ever since Chapter 2 was pulled from its original theatrical release date in summer 2024. Costner's original plan to release the first two chapters within roughly six weeks of each other was cast aside after the first chapter failed to even recoup its budget. Chapter 2 debuted at the September 2024 Venice Film Festival, but as Turman mentions, there is still no plan in place for a wide release.
Horizon: An American Saga - Chapter 1 grossed just $38.7 million on a budget of roughly $50 million.
Principal photography on Chapter 3 notably began before Chapter 1 was released in theaters, but it was indeed paused (due to the writers' and actors' strikes), as Turman noted to ScreenRant's Liam Crowley. While at the Venice Film Festival for Chapter 2's premiere, Costner himself itted that the completion of Chapter 3 would be challenging at best, and impossible at worst. Per Deadline, Costner itted, "I don’t know how I’m gonna make 3 right now, but I’m gonna make it."
Our Take On Turman's Comments
Frustration With The Project Runs Deep
Turman's comments bring to light yet another daunting issue facing the completion of Costner's Horizon saga: frustration for those involved. The sprawling cast is loaded with major stars like Turman, Sam Worthington, Sienna Miller, and Jena Malone, and schedules fill up quickly. With so much strife associated with the project, delays in production are only going to make it more difficult to even properly shoot the completion of the series in any sort of timely fashion. That will undoubtedly yield frustration among the cast, as Turman pointedly mentioned.

"Hoping That I Get That Call From Kevin Sometime Soon": Horizon Chapter 2 Gets Uncertain Release Update From Star As She Previews Its Story
Exclusive: After Horizon: An American Saga - Chapter 1 failed at the box office, Isabelle Fuhrman does not know what the future holds for Chapter 2.
On top of everything, the most recent lawsuit against Costner involves a stunt performer being forced into an unscripted sexual assault scene. It seems less and less likely that Horizon: An American Saga - Chapter 3 ever gets completed, and Chapter 4 seems like a pipe dream at this point. Unfortunately, with only two parts of a four-part series completed, the project essentially becomes moot, as none of the stories set up in the first six hours of content will ever deliver the intended payoffs. Turman's comments paint the picture of an unfortunate outcome for the Horizon: An American Saga series.
