Sony has announced that they are adapting their popular video game tribes of Horizon Zero Dawn to fight back against them.
The story of the Horizon Zero Dawn game follows Aloy, an outcast from the nature-worshipping Nora tribe. She acquires a Focus, which is augmented reality technology that inspires her to ask questions about her past. She spends time training under her outcast mentor Rost so she can win the Proving and earn a spot back in Nora society, at which point the tribal Matriarchs may reveal the answers to her questions. Unfortunately, though she is successful, the tribe is attacked by cultists and Aloy becomes a Seeker to hunt down the attackers. Over the course of Aloy's long journey, she will encounter many dangerous machines and learn incrementally more about her own origins.
Per IGN, Sony made quite the revelation during an investor briefing earlier today. They are currently developing a series adaptation of Horizon Zero Dawn with the streaming service Netflix. So far, there is no information about a release date or cast and crew.
There is also currently no information as to whether the Horizon Zero Dawn show will be animated or live-action. Netflix has generally set a precedent for creating animated adaptations of video game franchises in the past, including Monster Hunter: Legends of the Guild, Dragon Quest: Your Story, Castlevania, and their recent hit Arcane, based on League of Legends. However, they aren't unfamiliar with live-action adaptation, as they have applied that process to the Henry Cavil-starring The Witcher and the Dynasty Warriors film from 2021.
On the other side of the coin, most of Sony's recent series have been live-action, including The Last Of Us, which is being developed at HBO with Pedro Pascal in the lead, and Twisted Metal, which stars Anthony Mackie and is heading to Peacock. Horizon Zero Dawn has an epic scope filled with exciting terrains and terrifying monsters. This would certainly be a wonderful (though expensive) sight to behold in live-action, in addition to the format more accurately recreating the high-level graphics of the gameplay.
