New story and timeline details have reportedly been revealed for Sony Pictures' The Horizon show was announced in May, adapting Sony PlayStation's popular video game franchise of the same name. The first game in the series, Horizon Zero Dawn, was released in February 2017 to positive acclaim from both critics and fans. The game went on to sell over 20 million copies. Its sequel, Horizon Forbidden West, was released in February 2022 to rave reviews.
The Horizon series follows Aloy, an outcast Hunter for the Nora tribe, one of the many human settlements in a post-apocalyptic United States following a cataclysmic event that occurred approximately 1000 years prior. As a result of the hubris of the past technologically advanced human civilization, the world was made unlivable and overtaken by robotic animals run by an advanced artificial intelligence system. Found as a baby at the gates of an Old World facility, and thought of as a curse upon their people, Aloy was given to an outcast of the Nora tribe to be raised. During her youth, she discovered technology which connected her to the Old World and their civilization, allowing her access to vital information that would give her the upper hand against the dangerous machines that plague the world. Now, details about the TV show have been revealed.
In a recent post to Twitter, Okami Games (@Okami13_) reports that the Horizon series will be streamed on Netflix and titled Horizon 2047. The series will also allegedly exist parallel to the games and take place before the fall of humanity. According to Okami Games, the new information was shared by Jeff Grubb, a renowned leaker of video game news. Check out the tweet below.

The timeline reveal is surprising as it would imply that Horizon's central character, Aloy, will not have any role in the television series as she was born nearly 1000 years later. However, if the timeline is correct, the show will offer a glimpse into what started the downfall of human civilization and the destruction of all life on Earth in detail. Within the video games, this information is only ed to the player in bits and pieces through various text documents, holograms, and voice recordings.
The Horizon television series will also reportedly occur in parallel with the video game's narrative. This implies that there may not be a separate canon created for the show. All events that occur in the prequel Netflix series will line up with backstory created for the game. However, information revealed in Horizon Zero Dawn dated the beginning of the sentient AI's destruction of Earth to the year 2064, seventeen years after the possible timeline for the series. Barring a future announcement regarding the Horizon series, audiences can only speculate on what the future Netflix show will entail.
