After 2018, it seems we are in for a new era of horror reboot sequels. This could be a relief to many horror movie fans, as horror reboots have had a pretty mixed history when it comes to quality, but perhaps there should be more.

There are a lot of tainted horror franchises that could get a new lease on life with a reboot, despite it being a risky venture. However, there are just as many of those franchises that could simply just continue from the last film, just with new creative minds working on them.

Sequel: Tucker And Dale Vs. Evil (2010)

Tucker and Dale Vs Evil Woodchipper

Out of all the great horror comedies out there, Tucker and Dale Vs. Evil is easily the one that gets the least attention. The film about two good ol' boys who go on a vacation in the woods only to be mistaken for serial killers by a group of idiotic college kids is a fantastic subversion of common tropes in slasher films.

For a good while, there have been rumblings about a sequel to the film, with stars Tyler Labine and Alan Tudyk even confirming it was possible, but nothing has come of it. If there has ever been a time for these two to return to the silver screen, it's now.

Reboot: Nightmare On Elm Street (1984)

A Nightmare on Elm Street 4 - Alice Johnson and Freddy Krueger

The idea of a reboot of Robert Englund's doubts toward a return, a reboot is possibly around the corner.

The main concern will be if the reboot will give a new Freddy good material to work with, but with Doctor Sleep director Mike Flannigan expressing interest in handling a new entry in a recent tweet, maybe he could add his unique style to everyone's favorite former child killer.

Sequel: Frankenstein (1931)

Frankenstein

The Invisible Man's success means we will more than likely see a lot of the classic Universal Monsters returning to the big screen. While most of the films will probably be outright reboots, the one monster who needs to maintain continuity is Frankenstein's monster himself.

Since the original Bride Of Frankenstein and bring The Monster into a whole new story? It's risky, but it could work with the right creative team.

Reboot: Silent Hill (2006)

silent hill movie fog world

Though Silent Hill is perhaps better known for the original game franchise, it did spawn two movies that were...flawed, for sure. The big problem with the movies is the same one the later games had; they sacrificed story for spectacle. While this might of made the studios happy, for fans of the games, it was a huge no-no.

With the recent Castlevania series on Netflix remaining faithful to the games while fleshing out the characters, is it too much to ask that Konami allow their flagship horror franchise to get a similar treatment? Seeing how Konami has already hurt their standing with fans, perhaps this might improve things.

Sequel: Pumpkinhead (1988)

Pumpkinhead walks past a house and trees.

Pumpkinhead may not be the first name that comes to mind when discussing classic horror films, but the first movie has a strong following that persists to this day. While the same can not be said about its straight-to-video sequels, Pumpkinhead has truly carved out a legacy for itself, and its high-time the franchise returned to the big screen.

If the film went in the direction most horror revivals are going in these days, where it ignores all the sequels and follows directly after the first movie, that would do the film a lot of favors. No matter what direction it goes in, it's time for a new generation to witness the threat of Pumpkinhead.

Reboot: Hellraiser (1987)

(2) Pinhead from Hellraiser

it it, it'd be better this way. While new Hellraiser entries have been made as recently as 2018, none of them hold a candle to the original Hellraiser, or even it's slightly less successful sequel. Seeing how this is the case, maybe it'd be best to simply start fresh.

Out of all of these, this is the one that's certainly going to happen, but perhaps not in the direction you'd expect. While a remake of the film is still in development, a revival of the franchise is being kicked around at HBO, with the creators behind the recent Halloween film involved.

Sequel: Aliens (1986)

Sigourney Weaver in Aliens

While every sequel made since Ressurection, but the film was ultimately canceled.

After the purchase of Fox by Disney, fans still hold out hope that The House Of Mouse will look kindly upon Aliens, and grant the franchise a proper rebirth. While that isn't something you should wager money on, there's always a chance.

Reboot: Invasion Of The Body Snatchers (1956)

A man investigates an alien pod in Invasion of the Body Snatchers.

The original the two other adaptations in 1978 and 1993 respectively (not the 2007 one as much,) are seen as sci-fi horror classics. The movies all take the basis of the novel The Body Snatchers by Jack Finney and update them for the times they were made, commentating on social issues that were relevant in those days.

Taking that idea into consideration, it is the perfect time to make a new adaptation, with several hot-button issues that the film could comment on. With a good cast, crew, and subject to comment on, Invasion Of The Body Snatchers could be the next horror movie that everyone would be talking about.

Sequel: Killer Klowns From Outer Space (1988)

An alien clown holds a colorful gun in Killer Klowns From Outer Space.

While most people would disregard the movie based on its title alone, Killer Klowns From Outer Space is way better than it has any right to be. Despite what people will have you believe, horror movies don't always have to be scary, they can get by as long as they're well thought out and entertaining, and you'd have to be one salty cretin to not be entertained by this movie.

Though we're currently in a horror renaissance, you can't deny that most of today's horror films take themselves really seriously. While that does work out for them, its well past time for something different, and needless to say, a sequel to Killer Klowns From Outer Space would certainly stand out on a marquee.

Reboot: Friday The 13th (1980)

Friday the 13th Movies

The Friday The 13th franchise is an enigma. Though most of the films are garbage, fans still hold them in high regard. That's not to say they don't have good reason to be, as there is a strong amount of charm to the franchise, and there are some pretty good films that bare the name of Friday The 13th.

It would be inaccurate to say that the reboot in 2009 was anything special, but the idea of starting over again with Friday The 13th is sound, whether they play it straight like the recent fan film Never Hike Alone, or go full horror-comedy like the beloved 6th movie. Point is, it's time for Jason Voorhees to slip on the hockey mask at least one more time.
