The Dr. Cuddy left the show.

While speaking with Entertainment Weekly, creator David Shore was prompted to open up about the audience's initial reaction to the ending. While shying away from viewer responses, Shore shared more about his own perspective. He still stands by the ending today, reflecting on the thematic meaning of House and Wilson riding away together, while knowing that "the end of them was near". Check out his full quote below:

The whole thing was a dream. I was very pleased with how it went out, and that hasn't faded. It feels like the right ending — it felt right to watch House and Wilson drive off into the sunset, and it was the end of the show. It wasn't the end of them, but the end of them was near. There was so much bittersweet about it, but it was a wonderful eight years.

What David Shore's Comments Mean For House

House Probably Won't Be Revived

House came to an end after eight seasons of episodic medical mysteries and its titular character's slow loss of interest in minding his patience. In the finale, he and Dr. Wilson ride off together, never to return. House had faked his own death, while Wilson was wrestling with a terminal diagnosis and months left to live. The pair were together, but Shore was right to say that their end was near. In a few months after the ending, House would be alone again. Though it is a tragic ending, it was a natural conclusion for a constantly cynical character.

House ran for 177 episodes.

Shore's comments, along with other remarks from the interview, are a solid indication that the show will not be receiving a revival or reboot anytime soon. Shore is still satisfied with the conclusion and believes that there is no need to continue its narrative. Though House's ongoing streaming popularity could provide a financial incentive to create more episodes, Shore is more fulfilled by the narrative implications.

Our Take On House's Ending

House Ended At The Perfect Point

Hugh Laurie as Dr. Gregory House and Robert Sean Leonard as Dr. James Wilson in House M.D.

House ended when it did to prevent the show from running for too long. Dwindling viewership, a loss of major character actors, and a growing sense of narrative stagnation prompted Shore to speak with the network about ending the franchise. By bringing it to a close at a natural point, the show never had the opportunity to lose its quality. It ran for eight seasons, and they are all as captivating today as they ever were. House's tragic ending only added to the show's allure, as it was as bittersweet as any other moment in the titular character's life.

It follows Dr. Gregory House (Hugh Laurie), a world-renowned disabled diagnostician with a notorious substance abuse issue. With his team of world-class doctors, House has built a reputation as one of the most brilliant doctors in the world - an especially impressive feat when taking into that he rarely actually sees his patients.
