Season 15 of the beloved British series Doctor Who's recent acquisition by Disney has taken the series in an even more updated direction for the streaming age.
While there have certainly been valid criticisms of the changes made in the Disney era, there have also been some improvements over the previous seasons as well. With the return of Russell T. Davies and the casting of Ncuti Gatwa as the famous Doctor, season 14 of Doctor Who set a new tone. Now, it will be interesting to see how season 15 expands the new framework that the show has created, cementing Gatwa's unique take on the character to tell exciting new stories.
Doctor Who Season 15 Has 8 Episodes In Total
The New Season Will Air Over The Course Of 2 Months
Like Doctor Who season 14 (or 1) before it, season 15 will consist of eight regular season episodes which have been preceded by the Christmas special. Doctor Who season 15 will premiere on Saturday, April 12, 2025. While the content of season 15's episodes is largely still unknown at this point, there are a few things we do know. Along with Gatwa reprising his role as the Doctor, last season's companion Ruby Sunday will also reappear in season 15. Doctor Who season 15 will also introduce Belinda Chandra, the Doctor's newest companion.
The trailer for the new season also hints at big new adventures for the pair, featuring a song contest and plenty of mysterious monsters. While Belinda seems unhappy with her traveling partner at first, the two become increasingly enthralled by the locations and problems they come across throughout the season. As expected, the new season will include six regular episodes that tell distinct stories. The two final episodes will comprise one larger story, with the Doctor Who season 15 finale airing on May 31, 2025.
Doctor Who Season 15's Release Schedule Explained
The New Season Will Air Episodes Weekly
Though last season Disney released the first two episodes on Disney+ at the same time, Doctor Who season 15 will release only one episode during its first week and each of the subsequent weeks. This format makes sense as it follows a more traditional release schedule, allowing fans to enjoy a new adventure every week. In the United Kingdom, the series will be released on BBC iPlayer, but for audiences in the United States, Doctor Who will air each week on Disney+.
