Kate Hudson & Matthew McConaughey Have Made Two Movies Together

Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey have made two movies together: How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days (2003) and Fool's Gold (2008). The first, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, follows advertising executive Benjamin Barry (McConaughey) who takes a bet that he can make any woman fall for him. His target is a magazine writer Andie Anderson (Hudson), who wants to write a column about how to drive away a man in 10 days, putting the two at cross purposes. The film has a 42% on Rotten Tomatoes and earned $210 million (via Box Office Mojo).

A quintessential romantic comedy, Kate Hudson's yellow dress is one of the most iconic in film history. Fool's Gold came out five years later and reunites Hudson and McConaughey as Tess and Finn, respectively, a divorced couple who discover that there's a hidden treasure on an island. Their search for the "Queen's Dowry" and fight against other hunters looking for treasure brings the couple together. Though the film earned $111 million (Box Office Mojo), it only earned 11% on Rotten Tomatoes.

A critical bomb, Fool's Gold doesn't have much in the way of humor and the story and acting are lacking. However, Hudson and McConaughey took the lambasting in stride as they both continued appearing in memorable rom-coms like Ghosts of Girlfriends Past for McConaughey and Bride Wars for Hudson.

How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days Is The Best Kate Hudson & Matthew McConaughey Movie

Of the two films the pair of movie stars made, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days is better, and not just in comparison to Fool's Gold. How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days is an iconic rom-com with a unique storyline that was adapted from a comedic non-narrative book about dating dos and don'ts. More impressive than the story is the chemistry between Hudson and McConaughey. The two actors are on top of their charm game and, rather than cancel each other out like in Fool's Gold, their magnetism stacks.

On the 20th anniversary of the film, Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey met over Instagram Live to discuss the film. McConaughey says in the interview,

"Underneath, probably for things that were happening in character and out of character and off-set, we’d gotten under each other’s skin a little bit. We were legitimately kind of pissed off at each other in a really cool way. Like okay, that worked. But can we inject a little more of the charm and the love and the desire and the lust in there?"

Hudson added,

When you went one direction, I went with you. But then I would be like, 'I’m gonna throw him off a little bit. Let’s see what happens if I do a sharp right.'"

The confidence and comfort the two actors shared on set led to their winning pairing in the movie. In the Live video, they still appear to maintain that rapport.
