Accompanying Lydia and Delia is Lydia’s estranged teenage daughter Astrid (Jenna Ortega), who is struggling to cope with the death of her father, Richard. When Astrid is tricked into the Netherworld, Lydia has no choice but to summon Beetlejuice (Michael Keaton) to help her rescue Astrid, which he agrees to but at a big price. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice takes the audience into the Netherworld and back to the world of the living for more chaotic adventures, but the ending leaves big questions, as parts of it were real and others were a dream, but it’s unclear which are which.
Astrid's Wedding Through Lydia Waking Up Next To Betelgeuse In Bed Is All A Dream
The Weirdest Parts Of Beetlejuice Beeltejuice’s Ending Aren’t Real
At ex-wife Delores (Monica Bellucci) and Lydia’s gold-digging fiancé Rory (Justin Theroux). Now free of all of them, Lydia ends her paranormal talk show Ghost House to spend more time with Astrid and fix their relationship, and they go on a trip to haunted places around the world.
The dream begins when Astrid gets married to the vampire boy from the castle.
Their first stop is Dracula’s castle in Transylvania, and that’s a key point in the ending. Everything from the ending of Ghost House to Astrid and Lydia’s arrival at the castle is real, and the dream begins when Astrid gets married to the vampire boy from the castle. Astrid giving birth to a nightmarish baby Beetlejuice is also a dream, as is Lydia waking up with Beetlejuice lying next to her. Lydia’s second time waking up is her return to reality, so the most disturbing parts of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’s ending are just a dream.
Why Tim Burton Ends Beetlejuice 2 With A Dream Sequence Twist
It’s A Fitting Ending For Beetlejuice Beetlejuice
The dream sequence at the end of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is quite fitting with the sequel, not only in of tone but also with the story. At the beginning of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, Lydia is haunted by visions of Beetlejuice in the human world, and it’s later revealed that the bio-exorcist has been trying to reach out to Lydia. Even though Beetlejuice explodes after Lydia says his name three times, he’s surely still alive in the Afterlife, so the dream sequence is fitting with the ghost trying to reach out to Lydia once again.
Another theme in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, though not explored in depth, is Lydia’s trauma. Her encounters with Beetlejuice have been too wild to not leave some mark on her, and even though she defeats him in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, there’s still the fear that he will return and get what he wants. It’s unlikely Tim Burton will make a third Beetlejuice movie, but fans can rest assured that Lydia waking up next to Beetlejuice was only a dream and she and Astrid can move on in peace.
