Fallout 76 has a variety of irradiated mutant enemies for you to find and kill in the Wasteland, but Snallygasters may be among the most annoying to confront. The post-nuclear war regions of Appalachia host many aggressive and dangerous animals changed since the bombs dropped. Without the right plan, a Snallygaster can easily kill your character and make you lose a lot of loot if you aren't careful.

Snallygasters are four-legged creatures that have sharp claws and extremely long tongues, with extra long limbs and tongues to overwhelm you with a barrage of attacks. Unlike ive creatures like Brahmin in Fallout 76, Snallygasters will automatically attack any person they see. Typically, these monsters travel in groups, making them hard to take down since they travel in strong packs.

Where To Find Snallygasters

Search Several Specific Locations

snallygaster 2

Snallygasters are reliably found at several irradiated locations throughout the West Virginian wastes in Fallout 76's updated world map. You will always find Snallygasters at Toxic Larry's Meat 'n Go, but keep in mind that these creatures do not always appear at their hub locations. Another great spot for Snallygaster hunting is Charleston, in an area between the Hornwright Industrial Headquarters and the Capitol Building.

Some other locations spawn Snallygasters less frequently, such as:

  • Pylon V-13
  • Federal Disposal Field HZ-21
  • Flooded Trainyard
  • Kiddie Corner Cabins
  • Treetops
  • The crashed Vertibird behind Hemlock Holes

There are five types of Snallygasters you need to be prepared for, including the Bloody, Glowing, Nascent, Fetid, and Scorched Snallygaster. Each species of this creature has different stats, with the Glowing being the most powerful and the Nascent being the weakest. All types of Snallygaster have the same combat skills and abilities that they use during combat to attack you at breakneck speeds.

The type of Snallygaster does not give extra resistance or immunities to certain kinds of damage in Fallout 76, but some may have higher health and deal more damage than others.

How To Kill Snallygasters Fast

Keep Your Distance And Land Headshots

Snallygasters use toxic slime ranged attacks to deal damage from far away, inflicting poison damage to any ambitious vault dweller that approaches it. The creature will then charge you, using melee attacks like claw swipes and tongue whips to physically strike you and lower your health. Snallygasters have a natural resistance to radiation damage, so don't expect that type of punishment to be effective against them.

The fastest way to kill a Snallygaster is to aim for Headshots against them since Snallygasters take extra damage from wounds to their head. Combining this damage multiplier with the best weapons in Fallout 76 can easily decimate a group of Snallygasters quickly. Headshots tend to do 150% increased damage, making it smart to only engage these monsters from a distance.

If one of these creatures manages to get close to you, use a melee weapon and aim for a Headshot with something like a Shotgun to take it down. Don't forget to loot Snallygasters once you find and kill them to obtain materials in Fallout 76 that can be crafted into other powerful items for your adventures ahead.
