Three pieces of the Phantom Armor set in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom can allow players to get some of the highest base defense against attacks from Hyrule's dangerous enemies. The set is divided into a Phantom Helmet, Phantom Armor, and Phantom Greaves.

One of the benefits of the Phantom Armor set is that each piece has a Base Defense of 8, which may be the highest starting armor of any piece of gear Link can find in the game. While most of the armor sets in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom offer special abilities or higher defenses, the Phantom set has both.

One Zelda: TOTK Armor Set Is Still The Game’s Biggest Mystery

Amongst the many pieces of armor available to find in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, one poses the game’s biggest mystery of all.

How To Find The Phantom Helmet in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

Part 1 of 3: The Puffer Beach Overhead Cave

Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Puffer Beach Location Marked on Map

Players can start searching for the Phantom Helmet near Puffer Beach, a wider location settled around the coordinates (0293, -3848, 0004). This region lies south of Hyrule, right past the Utsushok Shrine, which can be used as a fast travel point if already completed. The beach oversees a wider ocean, where several Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom can be found scattered alongside the sands for Link to collect and use to reach the armor.

To reach the Phantom Helmet, Link must create a device by fusing a Zonai Rocket to his shield to give him the boost he needs. Similar to other Zonai devices in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, players should how long the rocket will last based on the complexity of their fusion.

Given that this is a simple creation without battery attachments, each Zonai Rocket will only give Link one shot. Therefore, having a couple on hand is best if Link misses the first time.

Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Weapon Fusion Guide (Materials, Parts, & Strategies)

The Fuse ability in TOTK is essential as many of the base weapons have tarnished and need additional materials to increase their damage & durability.

Across the beach, Link should be able to look up and spot a hole leading into a cave above them, marked by a Luminous Rock deposit. Link can use the rocket to launch himself and enter the Puffer Beach Overhead Cave. Players should be aware upon entering that this cave is home to several enemies in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, including the dangerous Silver Horriblin. Therefore, be prepared to fight your way through the cave to reach the Phantom Helmet.

Strong enemies will be present on the path to every piece of this armor. Therefore, it is a good idea to have strong weapons equipped or raw material bases that can be fused with items like the Silver Horriblin's Horn and made into a powerful weapon for finding the rest of the armor.

Once Link reaches the end of the cave, he will find a shrine containing a small treasure chest. Note that these shrines can be found in various caves across Hyrule and will almost always include a unique and valuable piece of armor. In this case, Link will find the Phantom Helmet within this chest, giving him a +8 Defense and an increase in attack power.

How To Find The Phantom Armor in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

Part 2 of 3: The Tamio River Downstream Cave

For the chest piece, also known as The Phantom Armor, Link must search the Tamio River Downstream Cave, located around the coordinates (-2968, -0981, 0035). After traveling to the Gerudo Highlands, this cave can be found northeast of the region's Skyview Tower, close to Satori Mountain. Due to how high up this location is in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Link might need armor with cold resistance to protect himself from the negative climate of these areas.

In the cave, players will once again have to defeat several enemies who climb the ceiling above a body of water before reaching a set of forking tunnels. Taking the left path will lead Link to a large room with another shrine on a high pillar in the distance that contains the Phantom Armor. Unfortunately, this armor is protected by yet another enemy and, potentially, one of the deadliest, the Gloom Hands of Zelda: TOTK.

One of the best ways to take on Gloom Hands is to get to high ground and fire Bomb Flower-fused Arrows at their weak points. Note that time will slow down when jumping and utilizing your bow, allowing you to aim precisely. Just be careful not to fall, as they can easily overwhelm Link, especially if he is not equipped with Gloom Protection.

Since defeating the Gloom Hands will summon Phantom Ganon in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, players should only try to beat that enemy if they are confident enough in their gear and combat skills. If you wish to avoid this fight for now, go behind the pillar of the Shrine.

Here, a cracked rock wall can be destroyed using a Bomb Flower or, with the help of Yunobo's avatar, which will unveil a direct path leading up to the Shrine. Open the chest in the Shrine to receive the Phantom Armor, which will also grant +8 Armor.

How To Find the Phantom Greaves in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

Part 3 of 3: Ancient Altar Ruins

The Phantom Greaves are the most challenging piece of the Phantom Armor since they are hidden within a sandpit deep in the East Barrens of the Gerudo region. However, by traveling either south from Siwakama Shrine or west from the South Lomei Labyrinth, players will find several different swirling pools of sand that act as holes leading to secret underground caverns.

While there are several swirling sandpits, the wrong sandpits will instead drop you into the ruins, which Link will need to ascend out of.

If you decide to go to this area on foot, be aware that this section of the Gerudo Region is covered with Molduga enemies that have a habit of sneaking up on you. If you accidentally trigger one, you'll likely need to kill it before you can finish making your way to the sandpits.

Situated around the coordinates (-2504, -3702, 0010), players can fly above the sands using the Gerudo Canyon Skyview Tower in Zelda: TOTK to pinpoint which quicksand pocket they should enter. After entering the correct sandpit, Link will be dropped into a room containing a shrine similar to the previous two he encountered. This chest will contain the last piece of the Phantom Armor, the Phantom Greaves, which will provide a final +8 armor.

How To Upgrade The Phantom Armor Set in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

Combine The Full Set For 24 Armor & An Attack Boost

Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Phantom Armor Set in Link's Inventory

While the Great Fairies of Zelda: TOTK is an excellent resource for increasing the strength of your favorite armor sets, the Phantom Armor Set cannot be upgraded. However, combining this full set will offer players 24 armor in total, which is significantly more than any other set will offer without being upgraded.

Therefore, this can be a great starting armor, offering an attack boost and strong defenses until you can upgrade some of your other sets. Players should note that this armor cannot be dyed in Hateno Village in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom either.
