One of the main attractions of Mobility over Damage in Splatoon 3. The weapon list is vast, encoming old items from the past two games and weaponry new to the Splatoon universe.
So naturally, Splatoon 3 fans will want to choose a weapon that matches their playstyle. After all, the game rewards creativity and diversity in its PvP combat. However, it would be no fun if players were confined to using simple gun-style, projectile-based weaponry for their entire playthrough. For this reason, Splatoon 3 will provide a means for Inklings and Octolings to unlock and buy new armaments to main or try out on the "splatterfield."
To unlock new weapons in Splatoon 3, players must head to the Ammo Knights, a small one-stop shop run by the amiable horseshoe crab Sheldon. This shop can be found within the hub area of Splatsville.
Unlocking New Weapons In Splatoon 3
Instead of using standard in-game currency to purchase weapons in Splatoon 3, players will need Sheldon Licenses, a resource acquired by leveling up through battles. The more PvP matches combatants participate in, the more Sheldon Licenses they will receive to spend at the Ammo Knights. Additionally, these licenses can be earned by consistently using a specific weapon, increasing the player's Freshness with the particular armament. While the Sheldon Licenses acquired from battling are, to a certain degree, unlimited, player Freshness for a weapon can only be increased for a total of five times.
Splatoon 3 introduces a bonus shop mechanic for those who wish to unlock a weapon that is supposed to be obtained beyond their current Inkling or Octoling level. Sheldon, being both a friendly crustacean and clever "businesscrab," allows fans to purchase an armament early for a much higher price. For instance, available items in Splatoon 3 typically cost a single Sheldon License when bought at the player's current level. However, higher-level weaponry can cost up to three Sheldon Licenses for those who do not wish to wait for their level to reach the prerequisite. This mechanic makes for an excellent pay-off system where those capable of earning lots of the licenses are rewarded with early access to the weapons they desire the most in Splatoon 3.
