A new era of the horrific Hulk as the last heroes standing. Rather than corpse-like zombies, Hulk and Groot will find themselves up against plant-based zombie heroes after Groot accidentally es on an alien virus to Captain America. With the Avengers, X-Men and more hungry for flesh, Hulk and Groot must find a cure before it's too late.
Coming this September, Marvel Zombies: Dawn of Decay is a four-issue series from Tom Krajewski (Primer) and Jason Muhr (Spider-Man 2099). Thanks to a recently revealed preview, fans can see the awesome (and incredibly creepy) cover art for the issue, as well as the opening minutes of this new zombie apocalypse.

A NEW ZOMBIE VIRUS IS UNLEASHED… AND GROOT IS PATIENT ZERO! Groot feels bad - not only because Rocket's latest scheme put them firmly in the crosshairs of the Avengers, but also he's just plain sick! Alongside Jason Muhr's main cover, Marvel has announced a connecting set of connecting variant covers for the series from Sean Galloway, drawn in the style of Saturday Morning cartoons. There's also a House of X #1 parody cover by Annie Wu, and covers by Ron Lim and Nick Bradshaw that show Hulk and Groot taking on the infected Avengers.

Only a Rare Hulk/Groot Team-Up Can Save Earth
Zombies have long been part of Marvel lore, but the specific Marvel Zombies brand embodies a creative approach that fuses horror tropes with superhero action, often bringing as much humor as horror to the table. Marvel Zombies stories also tend to be set in alternate realities, however from everything fans have seen so far, it appears this infection will be let loose on Earth-616, potentially ending Marvel's entire main reality because Groot sneezed.
While Groot and Hulk aren't exactly strangers (they first fought way back in 1976's Hulk Annual #5), fans don't get to see the two interact very often. A zombie apocalypse is a genius way to force them into a partnership, since Hulk's unbreakable skin and Groot's plant biology make them the only heroes not infected. However, while Groot may have Hulk on his side, that could come at a cost, since he'll need to keep the Green Goliath from smashing any of their friends before they can be turned back.
With genuinely disturbing plant-based designs, Marvel Zombies: Dawn of Decay is an exciting new take on the franchise, giving Hulk and Groot the perfect mission to forge a new bond between the two Marvel powerhouses... that is, if they survive the experience.
