When it comes to the most powerful character's in Marvel Comics, the Hulk lead the charge. Wolverine's healing factor, retractable claws, and general indestructibility make him tough to put down. Meanwhile, the Hulk's limitless strength and anger are not to be messed with. When the two powerhouses sparred in Ultimate Wolverine vs. Hulk, it was an understandably gruesome affair.
Wolverine and the Hulk have a long history together. Wolverine first debuted in The Incredible Hulk #180 with their first battle ending in a TKO for the Hulk. The two have had plenty of rematches throughout the years, but the most notable was when their bloody fight left Wolverine in pieces (literally).
In Ultimate Wolverine vs Hulk by Damon Lindelof, Leinil Francis Yu, and Dave McCaig, Wolverine is assigned by Nick Fury to take down the Hulk, who's being hunted for causing multiple violent incidents. His hunt takes him to Tibet, where Hulk is found living with a handful of "naked chicks," as Logan puts it. Wolverine intentionally pisses off the Hulk by making a number of crass remarks about his former girlfriend Betty Ross and gets punched, squished and then ripped in two by the man formerly known as Bruce Banner.
Wolverine should probably have known better to piss off the Hulk. It wouldn't be the last time Wolverine got ripped in half, but it's definitely the most gruesome. Ultimately, Wolverine (who was just a torso) had to climb miles up a mountain and use his sense of smell to find his bloodiest legs. If it was practically any other character, getting ripped in half would have spelled their ends. Logan continues on trying to find his missing half. Wolverine's lucky that when Hulk caught up with him on the mountain and threatened to eat one of his legs, that Ultimate She-Hulk intervened - otherwise the Hulk might have started chewing him up. Taunting Wolverine with his lower body is one of the more morbid things Hulk's ever done - even if Wolverine was goading him on.
In Ultimate Wolverine vs Hulk, Wolverine got the absolute snot beaten out of by the Hulk. The funny thing is, it could have been a lot worse for him. It shouldn't be lucky to just get punched and ripped in half, but in Wolverine's case, he's lucky Hulk didn't go full cannibal towards him. Provoking the Hulk wasn't a good idea - as Wolverine immediately found out. Thankfully, Wolverine makes a full recovery and the series ends with the Hulk's bounty being lifted (it's not as good news for She-Hulk). Wolverine and the Hulk's most gruesome fight ever will live on as one of the most violent battles between fellow heroes.
