Finnick Odair is one of the most popular ing characters in Finnick’s heartbreakingly perfect death in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2, he plays an important role in the trilogy.
Part of his importance was that he always seemed so much more worldly and experienced than Katniss and Peeta. Long before the District 12 tributes learned of the cruelty of the Capitol firsthand, Finnick was well-acquainted with it. Finnick also had a few years on the two new tributes, which helped add to his wisdom and savvy. Finnick was older than Katniss and Peeta, but just how much older?
How Old Finnick Was During The Events Of The Hunger Games
Finnick didn’t appear, nor was he mentioned, in the first Hunger Games book and film, but the timeline can be used to assess his age during the time. The Hunger Games is centered around the 74th games, in which Katniss and Peeta are named the victors. Finnick competed in his own games, the 65th games, at the age of 14. Finnick won these games through having the of sponsors and his ability to use a trident. Given the nine-year difference between his games and Katniss and Peeta’s, Finnick is 23 at the time of the events of the first Hunger Games.
How Old Finnick Was In Catching Fire
Finnick, played by Sam Claflin, first appeared in Catching Fire when he was reaped as the male victor to represent District 4 in the 75th Hunger Games along with his mentor Mags, who volunteered in Catching Fire for Annie, Finnick’s one true love and victor of the 70th Hunger Games. Finnick was a popular and handsome young victor who President Snow forced into prostitution, though instead of asking for money, he asked for secrets, which became helpful during the Second Rebellion. He was a great ally to Katniss and Peeta in the Third Quarter Quell, which took place a decade after Finnick’s first games, making him 24 at the time.
How Old Finnick Was In Mockingjay - Part 1 & 2 (Including When He Died)
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 takes place about a month after the end of Catching Fire. Along with Katniss and Beetee, Finnick is rescued by the rebel forces after Katniss causes an explosion in the arena. He works with Katniss and the rebel forces to save Annie, Peeta, Johanna, and others from the Capitol, where they had been kidnapped and tortured. In a live interview broadcast to Panem, Finnick exposes President Snow’s secrets while the rescue team works to infiltrate the Capitol. This short gap between the third and fourth films means Finnick was likely still 24 during Mockingjay – Part 1.
Upon their rescue, Annie and Finnick get married, and she becomes pregnant with his son, though Finnick tragically never gets the chance to meet him. Finnick is killed off in Mockingjay – Part 2 by lizard mutts while on a mission to President Snow’s mansion. It’s a horrifying death, though Katniss puts him out of his misery when she sets off an explosion in the sewer to free him of his pain. At the time of Finnick’s death, he was either only 24 or 25, making The Hunger Games loss even more devastating.
