In The Hunger Games, the main characters such as Katniss, Peeta, and even Gale are very interesting and complex. The main protagonists of the story like President Snow and President Coin also help make the series so engaging and great. However, without such an exciting cast of side and secondary characters, The Hunger Games wouldn't have been nearly as good.
Even though many of the side characters are fascinating, some of them don’t get their due in the story for one reason or another. Here are the main ing characters who deserve more.
Annie Cresta
Annie Cresta is a character that we don’t really learn that much about, but what we do know about her life is rather tragic. After finally getting to marry Finnick, the love of her life, he dies very soon after leaving her behind to raise their child that Finnick never even gets to meet.
While she does seem to go on to live a happy life, it’s pretty tragic and also a shame we don’t learn more about her.
Castor
While Castor isn’t a character fans learn all that much about, he’s fairly interesting given what we know about him. He was one of the people working with Cressida to film Katniss in the promos.
The fact that he also came from the Capital where he learned how to be a cameraman but then defected to in the rebellion says a lot about his character, and it’s sad that he meets an untimely end.
Primrose Everdeen
Primrose would be higher on this list except for the fact that she’s almost a main character herself. She might not be in the exact core group of characters, but she’s very important to the story.
However, her ending is extremely heartbreaking. While her death does show the tragedy and senselessness of violence, the fact that she died so close to the end of the war is still hard to swallow.
Madge Undersee
Madge is a character in the books who doesn’t make it into the films. She’s a rather interesting character who fans don’t know much about, but she is used to highlight the difference in how most people in District 12 are treated versus those in the higher class.
She was the daughter of the mayor of District 12, but this didn’t end up saving her family in the end as they all perished when the Capitol bombed 12. It would have been interesting to know a few more details about her and her family.
Wiress
The fact of the matter is that The Hunger Games is an extremely dark story that deals with heavy subject matter and has many character deaths.
Wiress is a side character that is only around for one book, but she is a good-hearted, intelligent person who has seen many atrocities in her lifetime. Given her past win as a tribute from District 3, it’s unfortunate we don’t ever learn that much about her as fans.
Mags
Mags is another character that doesn't have a lot of scenes in the book, but she does tug at fans’ heartstrings. Her sweet relationship with Finnick was heartwarming and also heartbreaking as she volunteered to save Annie Cresta.
When she dies, it’s extremely hard to watch, and it’s also depressing that we never get to see much about her or her relationships with Finnick and Annie.
Thresh
While Thresh is overall a very minor character, Katniss did for Rue.
It’s a rather touching moment amidst so much horror, and it says a lot about Thresh as a person. It definitely would have been interesting to know more about him including his family and his relationship with Rue.
Rue
Rue’s death was obviously extremely significant, and even though she only appeared in the story for a short time, she was well-loved by fans.
Her death is one of the most tragic of the entire series, and it set up just how horrible a world Panem was. It’s very upsetting that she had to die in the first place and also upsetting that we really never get to learn that much about her.
Finnick Odair
Finnick is another character who isn’t a main character but who does play a large role in a good portion of the series. However, he’s still a ing character, and he’s also one of the most beloved characters by fans.
While we get to know a good deal of his backstory, fans still wish we could know more about him. He also didn’t deserve the tragic end that he got and the fact he never got to meet his son.
Cinna
Cinna is probably one of the most interesting and likable characters from the entire series, and his death might be one of the hardest to accept of any from the story other than Prim and Rue.
He’s a talented stylist, comionate person, mentor to Katniss, and an important part of the rebellion. While his death is unfortunate, it’s also a shame that hardly anything is known about his background, and his character should definitely have been explored more.
