Warning! SPOILERS about Hunters season 2 ahead.Hunters season 1 finale's ending shot revealed how The Colonel's work actualized and how she was truly protecting Hitler; however, Eva's plan proved misguided, leaving many loose ends in Hunters season 2 episode 8. Despite the ever-present promise of great evil being discussed every time Eva (Lena Olin) was shown in Argentina, not much moved toward the goal Eva repeatedly said to have of creating a Fourth Reich. Although that might have had to do with Hitler (Udo Kier) refusing to see her as a leader, even after he was apprehended and brought to justice by Jonah (Logan Lerman) and the other hunters, Eva's plan struggled to make sense.
While Hunters season 1 focused a lot more on Nazis and neo-Nazis occupying all sorts of influential societal positions, Hunters season 2 saw Eva and Travis (Greg Austin) mostly lead Hitler's defense from the hunters. Indeed, having the hard proof of Hitler being still alive and in hiding, the hunters couldn't let it slide, especially as hunting him down was also the goal of Ruth's long-lost sister Chava (Jennifer Jason Leigh). However, between fighting off the hunters' attacks and trying to assert dominance over Hitler while simultaneously convincing him to let her lead, Eva's Fourth Reich plan didn't end up being thoroughly developed in Hunters season 2.
Keeping Adolf Hitler Around Hurt Eva's Plan In Hunters Season 2
Although keeping Hitler close might have given Eva's plan more credibility among those who ired him, he proved a problem for Eva's plans throughout Hunters season 2. Eva repeatedly reminded him of how he was alive because of her suggestions in a bid to have him her Fourth Reich plan focusing on reaching the neo-Nazi youth, but Hitler always showed how he didn't value her input. Hunters season 2's ending quickly highlighted how Eva's organization always had the means to reach him, even after the authorities captured him, as his rescue after his sentencing proved. However, rescuing him couldn't make Eva reach her goals, as he ostensibly opposed them.
Considering how Hitler repeatedly belittled and mistreated Eva, it wouldn't have made sense for her to save him after his trial. Not only did the trial give him one last chance to further hurt Eva's cause publicly by showing the world how far gone he was, but Eva could have also easily reached him and assassinated him before his public outbursts in court. Instead, she once again organized his rescue in Hunters season 2 finale, going against everything she stated was her goal and making her Fourth Reich plan entirely incoherent.
What Was Travis Planning To Do With Hitler?
In the end, Eva's Fourth Reich plan in Hunters season 2 finale was attempted by Travis. While Eva had the means to appeal to a new generation of Nazis, Travis proved to be part of them, and he also created his personal army in jail, where he landed at the end of Hunters season 1. Travis essentially stole Eva's plan, but while Eva wanted to make Hitler disappear first and appear as a new leader later, Travis sought a symbolic and public ing of the baton from Hitler to him.
Despite having an army of henchmen ready to defend him, Travis, fortunately, didn't succeed, and Hitler got to serve his sentence in Hunters season 2's ending. While Travis' escape could point to the notion of neo-Nazis' beliefs not dying, just like Frankel's speech during Hitler's trial did, Eva's Fourth Reich plan eventually failed, even in Travis' hands. Still, its many inconsistencies didn't help Eva's plan in Hunters season 2, unless its aim was only to evoke fear with the threat of what the plan alluded to.
