Warning! SPOILERS about Hunters season 2 ahead.Amazon Prime Video’s Hunters season 2 revealed the answers to various unsolved mysteries from Hunters season 1, but one secret about Jonah’s parentage remained unknown in the conclusive season. Despite having been killed by Jonah (Logan Lerman) in Hunters season 1, Meyer/Wilhelm (Al Pacino) came back for Hunters season 2 via flashbacks, which revealed both how every single one among the hunters was handpicked by the Wolf to become part of the vigilante group and who was truly behind Ruth’s murder. However, despite the centrality of family in Hunters season 2, one mystery about Jonah’s background was still kept secret.
To bring Hitler to justice, Ruth’s sister Chava’s (Jennifer Jason Leigh) involvement was necessary in Hunters season 2. Besides Chava’s strategic capabilities, the discovery of Ruth’s long-lost sister being alive gave Jonah a chance to learn more about his family and tips from someone in his same field, despite Jonah’s mistake of dismissing Chava’s advice. Still, despite how getting to know Chava and learning about her life and choices helped Jonah understand his goal in pursuing the hunt, background about Jonah’s immediate family wasn’t given by Hunters season 2, except for Ruth mentioning Jonah’s mother Naomi to Meyer in flashbacks.
Hunters Never Revealed The Identity Of Jonah's Father
While Hunters season 2 revealed a bit more about Jonah’s mother, Naomi, through the kind words Ruth shared about her to Meyer/Wilhelm in 1977, nothing was known about Jonah’s father, who remained unnamed for both seasons of Hunters. Despite Ruth’s death, Jonah did learn more about Ruth and Chava’s upbringing, thus learning about his family, but Hunters season 2 audiences never got to know about Jonah’s father. However, learning more about him or even Naomi wouldn’t have necessarily been needed for his story as the protagonist, as Jonah’s key parental figure had always been Ruth throughout his life.
Why Hunters Didn't Focus On Jonah's Parents
Among the revelations of Hunters season 2, Ruth knowing who Meyer was particularly stung, as after letting him know that she knew the truth, he ordered her murder. However, season 2 revealing things about Jonah’s parents wouldn’t have made sense, as they didn’t have a hand in raising Jonah. Indeed, Jonah became the person he was thanks to Ruth, and Hunters season 2 honored that by having Chava tell Jonah about her and Ruth’s childhood. Not only had Ruth been a parental figure for Jonah, but he also met his hunters family through her, and Millie even called out their dysfunctional family-like interactions in Hunters season 2, episode 2.
Hunters introduced Ruth and Jonah’s relationship’s centrality in its series premiere, when Ruth discovering Jonah’s illegal activities led to their poignant talk about the things they both did for each other. While by Hunters season 2 more people could be counted among Jonah’s loved ones, for most of his life all he had was his grandmother Ruth. Introducing reveals about his parents wouldn’t have made sense, as the only person that raised him was Ruth, and it was her murder that brought him on his path as a hunter. This way, Hunters season 2 not sharing Jonah’s parents’ story effectively showed what was really important was his connection to Ruth.
