Since then, a reboot film has been announced, with Prinze Jr. set to reprise Roy. New cast include Madelyn Cline, Jonah Hauer-King, and Nicholas Alexander Chavez.

On X, the @IKWYDLS_Movie official has revealed the first image for the I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot. The single, ominous image shows a person holding a hook, standing in a dimly lit room. A slate to the right of the frame includes the I Know What You Did Last Summer film label. In addition to releasing the image, the caption for the photo confirmed that filming had begun on the slasher horror reboot.

Story-wise, the legacy sequel has to for plot developments established in both I Still Know What You Did Last Summer and I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer. Despite initial rumors, the reboot director confirmed that this version is canonical and does not ignore the previous sequels.
