Jennifer Love Hewitt speaks optimistically about her return for the I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot recently confirmed the start of its production.
Speaking on a segment of the I've Never Said This Before With Tommy DiDario podcast (via The Hollywood Reporter), Hewitt addresses the chances she will return for the I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot. Hewitt coyly mentions that she is "possibly preparing for that." She says that the only barrier to ing the IKWYDLS reboot team has been "scheduling," as she would "really want to do something" in her return role. She confirms that the character Julie would be returning for the reboot, though does not specify if she would play her. Check Hewitt's full quote below:
I am possibly preparing for that. I am so close to being able to say something that’s exciting.
It has only been scheduling and me trying to make sure that if I go back to the franchise, I just don’t want to be the ghost of ’90s past. I really want to do something, and I want to be there for Julie James fans. … I just want it to feel like, you know, if she comes back then it means something.
What This Means For I Know What You Did Last Summer
The Movie Already Has Return Cast
If she does return for the I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot, Hewitt would not be the only original cast member returning. It has already been confirmed that Prinze will return, and Gellar said that she will be back in an "unofficial" capacity. In her same podcast interview, Hewitt was also asked whether I Still Know What You Did Last Summer's Brandy Norwood would be in the reboot. Hewitt gave the hopeful response of "I have heard that."

I Really Need The New I Know What You Did Last Summer Movie To Avoid This Legacy Sequel Tradition
The new I Know What You Did Last Summer movie is officially bringing back an original character, and I need it to avoid a legacy sequel tradition.
These casting decisions will have to be finalized soon if I Know What You Did Last Summer is going to continue its production. The recent update included a set photo showcasing the killer's classic hook. Even if she has not begun filming yet, Hewitt would have to do so pretty soon if she is indeed appearing. Likewise is the case with the casting of Brandy and other returning stars, as the reboot film is currently preparing for release on July 18, 2025.
Our Take On Jennifer Love Hewitt's Return To IKWYDLS
This Would Be A Good Way To Keep Things Canon
Hewitt should return to I Know What You Did Last Summer if director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson fulfills her big promises. Early rumors circulated that the reboot movie would ignore the films that came before it, but then Robinson confirmed that her 2025 film would be canon. One of the best ways to create this sense of continuity would be by bringing back characters from the original I Know What You Did Last Summer movies, making Hewitt's return welcome.
