Storms are a major nuisance in Icarus is a game where players mix survival mechanics with base building as they try to make their own fortune. There are a variety of biomes players can try to survive in, but virtually all of them have their own challenges, and weather variations, that players have to contend with.
Storms, however, are almost universally despised in Icarus. Be they arctic winds or medium rains, these storms will provide a variety of debuffs to the player, and even kill them under the right circumstances. But arguably just as bad is how storms can damage bases and equipment.
The main thing players need to keep in mind when any Icarus storm comes in is to find some shelter. This shelter can take many forms, but it requires the player to put themselves in a location with sturdy walls and enough space to light a fire. For beginner players who do not have a base, trying to find a cave is their best course of action. Go in deep enough, set up a campfire, and just wait for the storm to . Maybe even set up a sleeping bag if players want to the storm faster.
How to Survive Storms in Icarus
Players with bases in Icarus will want to get acquainted with two things: the fire whacker and the repair mallet. Unless the base is made of high-tier stone, odds are good the incoming storm will damage it. Either through winds damaging the exterior, or lightning causing nearby plant life to catch on fire. Thatch bases especially are likely to get damaged, so having access to a fire whacker will be invaluable in preventing fires from spreading any farther. Repair mallets on the other hand will be necessary when it becomes apparent that the base will fall apart mid-storm. Just repair and fix the base as necessary.
But for players who are exploring and away from the base, one good method to weather the storm is to take shelter inside a boulder. Use a pickaxe to hack towards the bottom of a large rock and try to hollow out the boulder. There is a decent chance the hollowed boulder will have enough space to fit a campfire or sleeping bag, and this will be more than enough to endure a storm. If the player has to pick between a campfire and a sleeping bag, stick with the campfire. There are several benefits to keeping the player warm and will contribute greatly to survival.
