Cyberpunk 2077's expansion is introducing a superstar no one knew the game needed: Idris Elba. Called Phantom Liberty, the DLC features the English actor in the role of Solomon Reed, an FIA agent for the New United States of America who partners up with V. Elba is ing a long list of celebrities in CD Projekt Red's game that includes equally adored celebrities such as Keanu Reeves and Hideo Kojima. Even so, his powerful, authoritative presence as an actor makes him a very welcoming addition to a game that is not always easy for new players to .

Indeed, the game and its history can ward off those curious about exploring Night City. Cyberpunk 2077's dense lore and lingo can feel intimidating for the uninitiated. Before CD Projekt Red brought the Cyberpunk universe to life in its video game, players could experience Night City through a series of tabletop RPGs that started in 1988. Since then, comics, lore books, the Edgerunners television show, and more have created a deep history that informs the world of Cyberpunk 2077. Consequently, as exciting Cyberpunk 2077 is, its three-decades worth of lore can feel intimidating to tackle, but Idris Elba's presence makes doing so feel less of a chore.

Though Cyberpunk 2077 initially wasn't for everyone, the introduction of Elba in Phantom Liberty is indicative of how inviting it has become. Both CD Projekt Red's game and Elba are at all-time highs, with Cyberpunk 2077 still seeing many active players and Elba landing more roles with famous film auteurs. Bringing Elba back to his acting roots in the role of a sleuth like Solomon Reed at this point in his career will be exciting for both new and old fans alike, and now with the gravitas his onscreen presence has gained, these fans may feel a gravitational pull toward Cyberpunk 2077's Phantom Liberty.

Cyberpunk 2077 And Idris Elba Are A Perfect Match

Elba and Cyberpunk 2077 are a perfect match. Elba is coming off of a year in which he had one of his best-ever roles, the Djinn in Three Thousand Years of Longing; and though the film was not a commercial success, Elba got to flex his grand presence and authoritative voice. While these two traits made him a great pick for a millennia-old magical creature, they also make Elba great for Cyberpunk 2077's DLC.

As an FIA agent of an authoritarian state, Reed is going to need an actor who can carry an imposing presence; however, since Reed is supposed to work with V, this actor will also need to add shades of gray. If Three Thousand Years of Longing and Elba's breakout role as a morally complex detective in Luther show anything, it's that Elba has the range and presence to carry out this role. And Phantom Liberty's teaser trailer confirms this.

Cyberpunk 2077 is also in the best state it's ever been for newcomers to . After a rocky launch that was infamous for its performance issues, CD Projekt Red has patched the game so it runs well and feels fun. Phantom Liberty only brings more stories and areas to the now well-respected game. What's more, this Cyberpunk 2077 DLC will signal the game's end, as CD Projekt Red plans to shift its focus to the sequel after its release. Thus, Elba and the DLC represent all that Cyberpunk 2077 fans have to look for in their future.
