The Inbetweeners was a hit television series in the United Kingdom, taking a group of teenagers who weren't the most popular group as they go through their school life. The series proved to be so popular that it ended up having two feature films released, proving just how good it was.
The comedic series really is hilarious all the way through, and a lot of that is down to the personalities that the characters have. As is true in any school setting, the intelligence levels certainly vary and having that only made the show funnier. So, within this list, the main characters are purely ranked based on their intelligence.
Neil Sutherland
Without a doubt, the least intelligent character from The Inbetweeners is Neil Sutherland. Despite the fact he is one of the four main characters, that doesn't mean he is bright. Neil has a very innocent and young mind in many respects, not understanding many simple things that the rest of his peers seem to grasp.
When it comes to exams and actual schoolwork, Neil never does particularly well either. While he is lacking in the basic intelligence, Neil certainly has a kind heart and really does try his best to cheer everyone up.
Jay Cartwright
While Neil often forgets basic things, Jay Cartwright simply doesn't think anything through. He's also not particularly bright and doesn't tend to thrive well at school, and that follows him in his life outside of the classroom.
There is no filter between Jay's brain and his mouth and he simply says whatever he thinks, which isn't always a good thing. He often makes up the wildest things which lead his friends to never believe a word he says, which also doesn't help his case.
Charlotte Hinchcliffe
Charlotte Hinchcliffe is the character that all the boy's dream of being able to go out with on the show, and somehow it is Will MacKenzie who ends up coming the closest to actually having a relationship with her. She isn't showcased too heavily when it comes to her knowledge, as her character isn't fleshed out outside of being the eye candy.
However, she clearly has a lot of common sense and is fairly mature with what she says when she is shown. Charlotte became a popular character and it's clear that she's not stupid, but equally, she's not shown enough to justify being any higher on the list.
Mark Donovan
Mark Donovan might be the school bully, but that doesn't necessarily mean he isn't smart. Mark has great street knowledge and is far more mature than many of his peers, even if he does act ridiculous at times when he is bullying them all.
However, he does also show plenty of intelligence with the way he talks at times, especially to teachers. He clearly has a front that he is able to put on and that ability to act does show that he's a much smarter person than he often lets on.
Simon Cooper
Simon Cooper is a hopeless romantic and someone who is desperate to be seen as a likable and smart person. While he certainly isn't stupid and has a lot more common sense than most of his friends, however, he also made so many bad decisions that it was hard to really claim he is too intelligent.
He always seems to offer sound advice to people and analyses pretty much everything, but he seldom actually follows his own advice. His behavior is quite erratic at times and it leads him to doing a lot of stupid things, which is why he doesn't rank any higher.
Alan Cooper
Slightly smarter than his own son, Alan Cooper is someone who only has a ing role within the show. He often pops up to embarrass his own son, providing different reminders to him which is often very funny.
While he isn't shown consistently to really gage his complete intelligence, whenever he does appear it is clear he knows what he's talking about. He always provides sound advice to his son and his friends when needed, and certainly is one of the smarter characters on the show.
Will MacKenzie
Will MacKenzie is arguably the lead character of The Inbetweeners. As the new member of the school who had previously been in a private school and because of that Will thinks he's better than most people. To his credit, he is actually quite a smart person and he is book smart.
However, Will isn't street smart and doesn't quite have the intelligence of being able to talk with people at times in social settings. That does hold him back at times in certain situations, but he is undoubtedly a smart person.
Carli D'Amato
Out of all the students shown throughout The Inbetweeners, Carli D'Amato is certainly the smartest. She has the blend of being socially smart and someone who thrives academically, which she showcases throughout the series on a consistent basis.
She isn't over the top with her intelligence and doesn't act like she is better than people because of it, which Will is sometimes guilty of. Because of that, her smartness might go under the radar, she is certainly a very clever character.
Phil Gilbert
Mr. Gilbert provides some of the funniest moments throughout The Inbetweeners, and while he can be incredibly grumpy and doesn't really have time to listen to his students moan. However, he is the head of the sixth form at the school, and the fact he is in that role proves he is incredibly intelligent.
While he is incredibly blunt with the way that he talks and showcases his intelligence, there's no doubt he knows what he is talking about. Mr. Gilbert is intelligent and he has no problem letting people know it either.
Polly MacKenzie
Will MacKenzie is one of the smartest characters in the show and he certainly gets his intelligence from his mother. Just like Will, it is clear that Polly is incredibly intelligent, which is why she's able to afford a great home and luxuries such as a fancy car, as she thrives in work.
However, whenever she talks to Will she always showcases excellent abilities to deal with his emotions, even if she can treat him like he's still very young at times. She's a very smart character and certainly proved to be very popular as well.
